when muhammad Ali met the irish 1 x 52’ we got game 1 x 52’ HD
When Muhammad Ali met the Irish is a hugely entertaining documentary
with a glorious cast of characters. The film spins an irresistible tale about
how the world’s greatest boxer came to fight in Ireland in 1972 and
interweaves Ali’s story with fascinating tales of promoter ‘Butty’ Sugrue (the
‘World’s Strongest Publican’), opponent ‘Blue’ Lewis (an ex-con from Detroit
trying to go straight) and a wealth of other entertaining tricksters whom Ali
invariably attracted. The IFTA-winning film is “evocative, informative, wholly
engaging and manages a nicely wry tone before finally becoming genuinely
elegiac,” (Irish Independent).
What happened Irish basketball in the 1980s was a kind of sporting miracle,
in this one hour documentary we recall when basketball in Ireland became
big and sexy, filled with unique larger than life characters, as black America
and small-town Ireland collided. This is not just a basketball documentary
but a fascinating insight and social history of a recession-hit country that
was enthused by the exploits of basketball stars from the States. Featuring
unique archive and interviews with all the key protagonists of these glory
days, this journey takes us from the basketball outposts of Cork and Kerry
right to the heartlands of the game, the USA.
