HIGHER EDUCATION PROVISIONS IN<br />
THE TAX RELIEF ACT OF 1997<br />
U.S. graduate students may claim the Lifetime Learning<br />
Credit, deduct student loan interest, make penalty-free<br />
withdrawals from IRAs or utilize the Education IRA. For<br />
further information, consult IRS publication 970, Tax<br />
Benefits for Higher Education.<br />
Continuing students (students in the second and subsequent<br />
years) in either the PHS or MBM Colleges meeting the<br />
following requirements are eligible for tuition assistance<br />
grants from those Colleges for the following year (two<br />
semesters). To be eligible, a student must:<br />
• Have a financial need,<br />
• Be in good standing academically and fiscally,<br />
• Meet the <strong>University</strong>’s academic progress requirements,<br />
• Have completed at least 12 credits of work during the<br />
previous year.<br />
Employees of <strong>Saybrook</strong> <strong>University</strong> or any of its Colleges who<br />
are eligible for employee benefits and are students at<br />
<strong>Saybrook</strong> <strong>University</strong> or any of its Colleges are not eligible for<br />
tuition assistance.<br />
Students must apply a annually for consideration for an<br />
assistance grant or its extension. Subsequent grants or<br />
AMERICORPS PROGRAM<br />
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that<br />
engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive<br />
service to meet critical needs in education, public safety,<br />
health, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve<br />
through more than 2,100 nonprofit, public agencies, and<br />

<strong>Saybrook</strong> <strong>University</strong> Tuition Assistance<br />
Tuition payment plans are available through the <strong>Saybrook</strong><br />
Business Office and include deferred payment options.<br />
Deferred payment plans are subject to administrative fees.<br />
Payment of tuition by check or credit card is permitted, and<br />
<strong>Saybrook</strong> accepts Visa, Master Card, Discover and American<br />
Express.<br />
renewal of a previous grant are possible, but students must<br />
continue to demonstrate need, and while receiving tuition<br />
assistance, students must complete seven to eight units per<br />
semester, 15 credits of work per annum, in a satisfactory<br />
manner for such grants to be extended or renewed.<br />
Students are required to complete a FAFSA.<br />
Students who are about to complete their masters program<br />
at <strong>Saybrook</strong> <strong>University</strong> and intend to continue<br />
toward completing a doctoral degree at PHS College are<br />
eligible for tuition assistance grants and may apply when<br />
applying to be admitted to the PhD program. Tuition<br />
assistance grants will be identified after a student is accepted<br />
into the degree program. Such tuition assistance grants will<br />
commence at the beginning of the first official semester of<br />
their doctoral degree program.<br />

<strong>Saybrook</strong> <strong>University</strong> Payment Options<br />
SECTIONS V, VI, VII<br />
Students may choose to make a full payment of any tuition<br />
and fees due or opt for a monthly payment plan. The<br />
monthly payment plan is generally spread out over four<br />
months. To avoid administrative fees, this option must be<br />
selected on the Tuition Payment Option Agreement (TPOA)<br />
before the start of the semester.<br />
