SCANA team helps bring in industry
Storm recovery aid
SCE&G helps fellow utilities restore power
IN
South Carolina’s days of darkness following Hurricane
Hugo, thousands of contractors came to SCE&G’s
assistance, helping to restore power to 300,000
customers without electricity.
Through mutual aid agreements, SCE&G crews and contractors
help other utilities restore power in the wake of storms and other
natural disasters. SCE&G contract crews headed to the Northeast at
the end of October when early winter storms left millions without
power. When Hurricane Irene struck in August, SCE&G storm crews,
including 100 linemen and support staff, spent a week in Richmond,
Va. assisting Dominion Virginia Power with power restoration
efforts. When storms strike, this network of utilities is ready to go
where needed to help get the lights back on as safely and quickly
as possible.
Twenty-four new industries
and industrial expansions and
hundreds of new jobs are the
result of a busy year for SCANA’s
economic development team and
its partners. SCANA works with
local governments and state,
regional and local economic
development allies to attract
industries to South Carolina.
“Even though the economy
is still sluggish and the
unemployment in South Carolina
is still high, 2011 has been an
excellent year for economic
development and job recruitment
within our service territory,” said
Charles B. McFadden, senior vice
president of governmental affairs
and economic development.
“The projects listed below
represent billions of dollars in
investment and thousands of
jobs. Our economic development
department, as well as our
electric and gas operations,
rate group and others, are to be
commended for the role they play
in recruiting these new projects
and expansions.”
Through the economic
development department,
SCANA provided 14 economic
development grants, resulting in
more than $2.875 billion in capital
investment and the creation of
