ART &
ABOUT
barbara and Jerry keller
by Lon Michels and Todd Olson
We started our art adventure in the Valley Of The Arts this week, at the
Saguaro Palm Springs Hotel. There we were, pleasantly surprised by a group
exhibition for artists who are part of the artist’s council at the Palm Springs
Art Museum. Their work was beautifully curated, and complemented each
other’s art.
Michael Schweartfeger and Bruce Kimerer were shinning
bright and so was their work in this beautiful setting. The
ongoing exhibits rotate through out the year and give artist’s
council members an amazing venue to display their work.
VALLEY OF THE ARTS
After the lovely exhibit at the Saguaro we were off to the Backstreet Art
District. This is an unique area with many art galleries in one location.
Backsteet Art District has become a wonderful way to spend the 1st
Wednesday of every month. Please see this incredible website for more
details, and amazing images of all who make up the Backstreet Art District.
Bill Anson is a maestro and his passion and love of art through sculpture is
simply word class, with integrity to last a lifetime! Bill Anson has dedicated
his life to his craft and has the talent of legends. We love his work so much
we are going to purchase a piece for our home. Please go see all of these
artists and their galleries. Most create right on site, like we do here at the
Lon Michels Gallery. When artists create on site, or in their studio/galleries,
this not only adds to the excitement, but is truly a way for you to see the
artist’s process and their creativity. It is much like the artists did in the 1700
and 1800 in Paris. The Backstreet Art District truly is one of Palm Springs
hidden gems, not to be missed.
When thinking of someone who is 102 years old, the use of computers,
I Pads, and reading 3 to 4 books a week, does not come to mind, not to
mention daily painting. Barbara Keller’s father, Max Marvin Cohn, is such
a man. He was born in NYC in 1912 to Frieda and Sam. In the 1950’s,
while living in Queens NY, Marvin began painting. He continued to paint
throughout his life, even painting at Barbara and Jerry Keller’s home in
Vence, France.
Marvin’s painting talents are incredibly diverse. At his solo exhibition on
Father’s Day, street scenes, portraits, homages and abstract paintings were
all uniquely and beautifully represented. This incredible artist appears to
look more like 60 years old, and is so very intelligent and talented. He is a
blessing to all who know him and we were so grateful and honored to be
there for his exhibition at 1st Gallery in Rancho Mirage. Art is the owner
of the gallery, and made this very special event to honor Mr. Cohn. Thank
you, for all you do Mr. Cohn, who you are, and for sharing your world with
so many. We have been touched by the love in your heart and your work.
Also a special thanks to the incredible Kellers, Barbara and Jerry. Not only
do the Kellers work endlessly to make our Valley a better place to live, they
make the Valley Of The Arts a world class destination for the arts, and we are
grateful to call them our friends. I want to believe that good things happen
to those who wait.
here we are with angela romeo at trio.
