Romanesque Architecture<br />

Romanesque architecture is known for its<br />

rounded arches, barreled vaults, and thick<br />

stone walls. Windows in <strong>the</strong> walls were<br />

characteristically small in order to allow for<br />

sufficient support of <strong>the</strong> walls. Buttresses<br />

were on <strong>the</strong> outside to support <strong>the</strong> huge<br />

weight.<br />

Romanesque architecture was mainly used<br />

from <strong>the</strong> 9 th century to <strong>the</strong> 12 th century.<br />
