Breaking News! Congratulations to Bryn and Mary Anne!
Bryn Cahill and Bon Renoir have qualified for the Region 3 Young Riders
Team and will be competing at the International Young Riders Championships
at the Kentucky Horse Park on July 26th through August 1st. At only
17 she is the youngest rider on our Region's team and the only young rider
on the team from Florida. She qualified by competing at several qualifying
competitions for the past six months. The photo above is Bryn and Renoir
riding her Young RIder Freestyle Class which she won with a 76.9%.
Also, Mary Anne Burns won her Bronze Medal at the Silver Sands show on
June 12-13th. She was riding Nuis, her Dutch gelding.
We are so proud of you both for those tremendous accomplishments. We
all know what hard work and perseverance it took! Let’s give them a big
Suncoast Dressage BOOYAH!
SUBMISSION DEADLINE TO COLLECTIONS IS THE 20th OF THE MONTH
SDCTA is a Group Member Organization (GMO) & all members are automatically Group Members
(GMs). For USDF Participating Membership, members must apply directly to USDF.
I want to thank Kim and Harvey Rose for hosting the last meeting. As always there
was good food and good friends with a passion for horses. We had a small business
meeting.
While everyone else has been busy with the heat, Bryn Cahill has qualified to represent
Region 3 at the North American Junior Young Rider Championships in Lexington
with her lovely new horse Bon Renoir. She is the only Young Rider from Florida to
have qualified so congrats to her. Also, a special round of applause for Mary Anne
Burns and Nuis on earning their Bronze Medal at the Silver Sands show. Yea Mary
Anne!
Sally, Tracy & I trekked up to Phase B of the "L" judges program in Lake City. We
were able to view great rides in person and on video from Training through Second
Level. We studied the criteria of each movement so it was a very educational trip.
We plan on eventually giving a talk to membership on what we are learning.
I wanted to mention that we had a great T-shirt show at Pam Aide's Keystone Sport
Horse arena. There were lots of rides and lots of fun and prizes were awarded for the
best T-shirts. We look forward to having more of these fun shows.
Our next meeting will be at Elizabeth's with a presentation from Dirk Haase
on troubleshooting hoof problems. We were going to go to Mirielle’s, but changed because
of the speaker. We will also be looking for more volunteers for the August
show, especially scorers and ring stewards. And everyone should be thinking about
running for office for 2010-2011. We will be putting together a nominating committee
in August.
Look forward to seeing you at the July meeting!
July 2010 Collections Page 4
We need volunteers for the August show. Right now all slots are open so if
you want to help, now is the time to grab the job of your choice. Beat the
rush! Sign up now! We need at least:
2 Ring Stewards (3 would be better) - 1/2 day shifts beginning no later than 7:30am until the
lunch break and then lunch break until the end of each day...probably 6:00 on Sat and 4:30 on Sun.
Need to be comfortable checking bits. You will have a cheat sheet for allowable bits & saddlery.
2 Scribes - 1/2 day shifts beginning no later than 7:30am until the lunch break and then lunch
break until the end of each day...probably 6:00 on Sat and 4:30 on Sun. NOTE: Scribes cannot sit
with the judge if they have a relative/student/horse in the class.
2 Scorers - 1/2 day shifts beginning no later than 7:50am through the lunch break and then after
lunch break until the end of the day...probably 6:00 on Sat and 4:30 on Sun. Need to be comfortable
with an adding machine and computer.
Test/Ribbon Hander-outer - as of 12/09 we are not allowed to put tests out on a table so someone
will need to hand them out. 1/2 day shifts beginning no later than 7:50am through the lunch
break and then after lunch break until the end of the day...probably 6:00 on Sat and 4:30 on Sun.
This is a cushy job in the AC!
Runner(s) - 1/2 day shifts beginning no later than 7:50am through the lunch break and then after
lunch break until the end of the day...probably 6:00 on Sat and 4:30 on Sun. We are scheduled to
have only 2 rings so we might get by with 1 runner per day. If the show grows and we add a 3rd
judge, we will need at least 2 runners. Runners must have comfortable shoes!
Announcer - 1/2 day shifts beginning no later than 7:45am through the lunch break and then after
lunch break until the end of the day...probably 6:00 on Sat and 4:30 on Sun. Can't be shy!
Stall Card Hanger-upper - My favorite job! Must be done on Thursday or before 8:00am on Friday
morning. Must be able to figure out the crazy stall numbering method of the Fairgrounds. Takes
about an hour and a half if you are not dyslexic...or 8 hours if you are!
Ring Setter-uppers - Joan will schedule ring setup either Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
Please note that you CANNOT set up your stall before Friday unless you pay for an extra
day (Fairgrounds rules, not mine!)
Ring Taker-downers - can't be done until the last horse is done so likely after 4:30 on Sunday
Judges' Transport to and from the showgrounds - Judges need to be at the showgrounds at
least 20 minutes ahead of their first scheduled class so figure on 7:30 both mornings and done at
6:00 on Sat.
Judge's Transport to and from airport - Judges will fly in Friday pm. Usually near the 7:00 mark.
They need to be transported to the Hilton Garden Inn near the Fairgrounds. On Sun, they need to be
taken back to the airport.
General Office Help - wouldn't it be great if we had someone to fill in as necessary...run tests,
score, post scores, make sure we haven't forgotten anything…
Please contact either Mary Mobley at heingleinmobley1@msn.com or Sally Cahill at Cahillsally@gmail.com
to sign up. Thank you.
Thought for the Month
Submitted by Mags Ashworth
It's easy to over look how much progress you have made in any area when you get drawn in to the day
to day routine. Be fair to yourself when you are looking at where you were 6 months ago and where
you are now. Sometimes when we have a bad ride or a bad day, our first conclusion is that we are
"stuck in a rut". But if you look back to the challenges you were having 6 months ago, you will find
that there have been positive changes! Remember that training is relative! What used to be good
enough 6 months ago is maybe not good enough now. So for example, if you worked 6 months ago on
putting your horse in front of the driving aids, and you realize that you have to have that lesson again, it
may not be because your horse slipped back in his training, it could be that you are in a new place in
training and that your expectations are higher than they were 6 months ago.
