Suncoast Classic was a SUCCESS!
Despite the soggy rings during setup and lots of rain earlier in the week, the
Suncoast Classic breezed through with nary a drop and sunny skies.
Once again, the Fairgrounds proved to be a hospitable site with very good footing
in both the show rings and the warm-up ring. Even though entries were
down, two rings were well filled. Everyone was pleased with the selection of
the judges, who were very rider-friendly.
Although the scores and photos will be posted on the website, there are a few
BIG accomplishments that must be mentioned! Congratulations to Betsy Farrier
who got her Bronze Medal; to Susan Hartman who also got her Bronze Medal;
and to Jane Whitehurst who got her Gold Medal. The club also wants to thank
everyone who showed and to congratulate the many others who achieved a
personal best !
Last, but definitely not least, we need to thank our volunteers. Volunteers are
the heart and soul of any organization, but SDCTA simply could not put on a
show without it’s volunteers. While a two ring show makes it easier to fill the
spot, this show ran particularly well. Sally Cahill puts it very well.
“Thanks again for all of you who volunteered at the show. You were
wonderful to give so generously of your time to help us have a great
show. Without all your help, it would not be possible for the club
to raise the funds we need for our upcoming year.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE TO COLLECTIONS IS THE 20th OF THE MONTH
SDCTA is a Group Member Organization (GMO) & all members are automatically Group Members
(GMs). For USDF Participating Membership, members must apply directly to USDF.
Treasurer Notes:
Effective immediately Dues Go Up! Unfortunately, the USDF has just notified us that they
have raised the GMO member dues owed to them for 2011. The SDCTA board has voted to
raise the dues for members for 2011 to $40.00 if paid by September 30th and $45.00 if paid
after that. For those of you who already have given me your forms and payment - you are the
LUCKY ones and do not owe any more money, being early has it rewards. Sorry, but the
club has no choice but to pass the increase on. Thanks for your understanding - the new form,
with the correct amounts for 2011 should be up on the website and I will have forms to hand
out at the meeting next week.
Sally Cahill
Can you believe its already September and the show has come and gone, and what a
great show it was! I want to thank all of the volunteers who made this show such a success.
I especially want to thank Mary and Sally for all of their work before, during and
after the shows. Also a special thanks to Harvey, Kathleen and Mags for staying late
and helping close down the office.
This months meeting will be at Half Pass Farm. We are going to have a troubleshooting
"gabfest"...we will discuss the things members are having trouble with and possible
"cures" that other members might know about so plan on attending and hopefully you
will go home with lots of good info.
See you there!
Joan
Reminder….
Presidents Message
Members who need to get credit for their volunteer hours, please contact Tracy Schlabaugh
ASAP. You need to verify your hours to be eligible for End of the Year Awards.
Year End Award Notes:
Please note the End of the Year Awards form has changed slightly and I need to get your information
by the October deadline. I want to be sure that everyone who qualifies for an award is included. Remember
you must turn in a form even if you are only eligible for the Volunteer Awards, because I still
need to know which level of award you qualify for and what you would like to receive for your service.
Please note - my children have all left home now and I am no longer in mother mode and will not
hunt you down as I have in the past to beg for this information. Seriously, please email me with any
questions regarding the qualifications and/or awards and get your forms in on time. Forms are on the
website.
Thanks, Sally Cahill - email address - cahill.sally@gmail.com
Lessons From Your Horse:
*When you're tense, let me teach you that there are lions in the woods, and
we need to leave. NOW!!
*When you're short tempered, let me teach you how to slog around the pasture
for an hour before you catch me.
*When you're short-sighted, let me teach you to figure out where, exactly, in
40 acres I'm hiding.
*When you're quick to react, let me teach you that herbivores kick much
faster than omnivores.
*When you're worried, let me entertain you with my mystery lameness.
*When you feel superior, let me teach you that mostly, you're the maid service.
*When you're self-absorbed, let me teach you to pay attention!! (I told you
about those lions in the woods...)
*When you're arrogant, let me teach you what 1,200 pounds of yahoo-let'sgo!
speed event horse can do when suitably inspired.
*When you're lonely, let me be your companion. Let's do lunch. Also breakfast,
dinner, and snacks. Lots of snacks.
*When you're tired, don't forget the 600 pounds of grain that needs to be
unloaded.
*When you're feeling financially secure, let me teach you the meaning of
"veterinary services, additional."
"Because the more you know, the less you don't know"
club hours requirement.
Joan called the meeting to order at 7.31pm.
Treasurer's report given by Sally Cahill.
Discussion regarding show entries, seems low at the moment so late fees will be waived. Jane Whitehurst stated
our fees are reasonable. Discussion continued regarding future show dates and possible re-organizing due to one
organization dropping their usual show slot.
Any entrant dropping off shavings, etc., to a stall at the fairground before the allotted time on Friday will be charged
another days stall fee.
Sally Cahill advised current list of volunteers and job assignments, stated Mary Mobley will email everyone concerned
to confirm what they have agreed to volunteer for, which day/s and time. It was also mentioned that if a volunteer
is running late or a problem in attending to call someone to let them know to advise the office staff so that a
replacement or cover can be organized until the volunteer can arrive and take their station.
Susie Hartman very kindly produced a show handbook which explains what each role comprises. Susie will arrange
with Tracy Thompson to get this on the website in a .pdf content.
Scores and ribbons will be handed out in the tower this will decrease the foot traffic into the office. Sponsorships
are available at $40 per class. This will get the sponsors name in the show catalog but information needs to be
given ASAP to Sally Cahill due to publication deadline.
Club membership stats are up compared to previous years! Joan advised a lot more young people have joined.
Sally and Joan will be the nominating committee for the future board members for 2011. Please either call Joan -
