A. I did.
Q. Are you aware that neither Ms [ADM] nor Ms [ADQ]
received those letters?
A. I can't explain why not.
Q. But are you aware?
A. I am now, yes.
Q. How did you become aware that neither received the
letter?
A. You just said so.
Q. You weren't made aware some weeks ago by Mr Walsh?
A. Correct - yes, I was.
Q. I don't wish to ask you anything about the
conversation you had with Mr Walsh, but I will ask you
this: did you initiate the giving of an apology, through
Mr Walsh, at the Royal Commission some weeks ago?
I withdraw that. I will approach it a different way.
About two or three weeks ago, Mr Walsh, appearing on your
behalf, conveyed an apology to each of Ms [ADM] and
Ms [ADQ]. Are you aware of that?
A. I am aware of that.
Q. Who initiated the giving of that apology?
A. I had initiated by writing the letters. He conveyed
that apology himself, because the opportunity arose.
Q. So is the Commission to understand that, having
discovered that neither letter was received by Ms [ADM] or
Ms [ADQ], you sought to rectify the situation and have
Mr Walsh convey the apology?
A. He rectified the situation that the letters did not
reach the victims.
Q. Just to be clear, is it your evidence that it was
Mr Walsh's initiation to give that apology at the
Royal Commission two or three weeks ago?
A. Yes, and he informed me that he had done so, and
I approved of what he had done. That's what I would have
done, and continue to do.
