Together with other member banks of SWlFT (Society<br />
for Worldwide lnterbank Financial Telecommunication)<br />
we have pushed further ahead with the international<br />
standardisation of the communications network for in-<br />
ternational payment transactions. Roughly 250 banks<br />
from 15 countries have now joined the Computer asso-<br />
ciation.<br />
Lively activity of our subsidiary in Luxembourg<br />
Despite difficult conditions on the Euromarket, the<br />
Compagnie Financiere de la <strong>Deutsche</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> AG,<br />
Luxembourg, had a very satisfactory year. The balance<br />
sheet total in the 1973174 business year (as per 30. 9.)<br />
rose by 39.3% to the equivalent of DM 5.8 bn. The insti-<br />
tution was again chiefly engaged in money market and<br />
international lending business. The volume of credit ex-<br />
tended increased by DM 1.7 bn. to DM 3.5 bn.<br />
The steady expansion of its business has prompted us<br />
to make a further increase in our Luxembourg subsidi-<br />
ary's own funds. Following the allocation to the reserves<br />
out of the year's net earnings the company's capital and<br />
published reserves now amount to roughly DM 100 m.<br />
Steady growth of EBlC<br />
The importance and growth of EBlC- European <strong>Bank</strong>s<br />
International - are reflected in the combined balance<br />
sheet total of the partner institutions amounting to US$<br />
107.4 bn. (end of 1973) as compared with US$ 87.7 bn.<br />
(end of 1972). At that time the EBlC banks- Amsterdam-<br />
Rotterdam <strong>Bank</strong> N.V., Amsterdam, Banca Commerciale<br />
ltaliana S.p.A., Milan, Creditanstalt-<strong>Bank</strong>verein, Vienna,<br />
Midland <strong>Bank</strong> Ltd., London, Societe Generale, Paris, So-<br />
ciete Generale de Banque S.A., Brussels and <strong>Deutsche</strong><br />
<strong>Bank</strong> AG - had over 9,450 (9,350) branches and em-<br />
ployed a staff of more than 187,000 (178,000).<br />
