AKENG45_STS Page 190 Monday, April 28, 2008 11:38 AM Instrumentation and Controls When the security lock is engaged, you can lock and unlock the rear doors using the remote keyless access, the front power door lock switch or by lifting the rear door lock manually. But the door can only be opened from the outside. Security Lock Activation To activate this feature, use the ignition key to turn the rear door security lock to the horizontal position, and then close the door. To open the door, unlock it and open it from the outside. To deactivate this feature, use the ignition key to turn the rear door security lock to the vertical position. ■ TRUNK AREA CAUTION It can be very dangerous to drive with the trunk open. Carbon monoxide (CO) gas can come into your vehicle. You cannot see or smell CO. It can cause unconsciousness and even death. If you must drive with it open or with the seal between the body and the trunk lid broken, make sure all windows are closed and turn the fan on to the highest speed using any setting that brings in outside air. Doing this will force outside air into the vehicle. Make sure that the air outlets on or under the instrument panel are fully open. . . . 190
AKENG45_STS Page 191 Monday, April 28, 2008 11:38 AM Section 1 Trunk Release There are two ways to open the trunk from outside the vehicle: • Squeeze the release button located on the rear of the trunk lid, above the license plate. The transmission must be in P (Park). The keyless access transmitter must be with you and the passive entry feature must be enabled in order for this feature to work. If the vehicle is locked, passive functions operate when the transmitter is within 1 meter (3 ft) of the trunk. See "Keyless Access System" in Section 3 for more information. • Press the trunk release button on the keyless access transmitter. The release button only works when the transmission is in P (Park) or N (Neutral). See "Keyless Access System" in Section 3 for more information. You can also open the trunk from inside your vehicle: • Press the trunk release button located on the driver's door. The release button only works when the transmission is in P (Park) or N (Neutral).
