From the President
Dear Friends,
As I write this letter, the students are taking their final exams. This will be their last day
for the school year 2007-2008. Of course, it is very quiet in the school during testing
except for the ½ hour break between exams. Some of the students use this time to study
for their next test, others walk the track on this beautiful day, and many have a snack and
enjoy a few moments with their friends.
You will recall from your own school days that this is a time of very mixed emotions.
The students are happy to be out of school for several weeks, but at the same time, they
will miss their friends and even their teachers! It is also a time of refreshment for the
teachers, some of whom will study. Many will find time for rest and relaxation and visits
with family and friends. There will also be time set aside for preparation for the next
school year.
In this rhythm of academic life, it is always our hope that the young women who receive or have received their education at
Elizabeth Seton High School will remember the values and elements of faith that have been imparted to them during their school
years. As you know, we have a strong educational program, but we exist for much more than the academic program. The faith
life of our students is nourished by the religion program, the service-learning program and the campus ministry program. These
are some of the foundation stones on which the rest of our program rests. We also work hard to continue to build the values of
respect, support, and love that parents have begun at home.
The lives of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Vincent DePaul are examples for the students. They both had a passion for helping
others, especially the less fortunate. It is our hope that the students have absorbed these elements of a Christian life that have been
presented to them during their high school years.
The ending of this school year gives me the opportunity to thank all our benefactors and supporters. In August, 2007, we opened
the Center for Sports and Fine Arts. We wonder how we ever managed without it. The teachers and students are so grateful to
all of you who made sacrifices in order that this building could become a reality. If you have not already done so, please come
for a visit. The summer will find many of us here preparing for the 2008-2009 school year, and we would love to take you on a
tour of the new facilities.
Our growing enrollment necessitates some major capital improvements to the school. We will be adding a new chemistry lab in
the science department and at least one new classroom. Other improvements to the 1959 building will also be taking place.
May your summer be blessed and may you all be safe in God’s loving care.
Sincerly,
Sister Virginia Ann Brooks, D.C.
