MATT O’CONNOR
Matt O’Connor, 29 is
that good looking,
good-natured,
knockabout Aussie guy
we all know.
He’s the one who values his mates, works
with his hands and sets all the girls’ hearts
racing with a ready made smile.
Blair describes him as “just a normal bloke;
like a lot of guys I went to school with. There’s
a bit of Matt in all of us blokes.”
His family is headed by parents Greg and
Leanne - and with older (married) sister,
Shelley - Matt has always been a popular guy.
Playing footy for the local first grade side has
meant Matt’s never lacked female admirers
and has ensured a loyal set of buddies to
drink and hang out with. He loves nothing
more than getting out on the water to fish with
his best mates Callum, Chugga and JB.
Matt is engaged to Bec Gilbert and has been
with her for almost 10 years. He loves her,
there’s no question about that. He considers
her a good woman - a decent, honest person
who does right by him and who deserves to be
treated right.
For the most part their relationship is a happy
one, but like any relationship there are things
that Bec does that he doesn’t understand.
Like her friendship with Jenny Gross.
He doesn’t see what Bec gets out of the
relationship and thinks Jenny puts too many
demands on Bec’s time and fills her head with
disgruntled ideas about weddings. But he
tolerates her - for Bec’s sake. “The biggest
thing is that Jenny has never grown up. She
wears the same stuff. It irks him that she
gets to the same sticking points all the time.
There’s no evolution. She’s quite predictable.
They probably have a lot more in common
than they think,” says Blair.
The reality is, Matt’s in no hurry to be pushed
into the wedding - in the end, he’ll always
make the decision that’s right for him.
