kind of girl you’d want
as your best friend.
She’s fair, rational
and considered, with
a mischievous sense
of humour and a sexy
smile that lights up the
room.
“She’s very warm, a really lovely character,”
Zoe says. “She’s stable and considerate. I
think it makes her good fun.”
Of all the ‘Losers’ at school, Bec was the one
who was never given a mean nickname. She’s
always known that if she’d refrained from
hanging out with Jenny Gross, she might have
been one of the cool girls.
But Bec was Jenny’s friend in the sandpit,
where she first came to her aid against
bullies…and she’ll be Jenny’s friend forever.
Though at school she felt rejected by the incrowd,
in her late teens her good behaviour
paid off when she landed the ‘catch’ of their
local area – Matt O’Connor – a good-looking,
up-and-coming builder, who went to school
with her older brother Callum.
Lots of girls were after Matt, but Bec knew
if she just stood back and let him waste his
time with a few trashy chicks first, he’ll turn
around one day and see the girl standing
coolly in the background, keeping herself nice
for him. And, at last, he did.
Proving she wasn’t the reject she felt at
school, Bec’s self-esteem soared after
getting her man and she was thrilled when he
finally proposed.
But they’ve been together nearly 10 years,
engaged for four…and Matt’s still resisting
setting a date. He says they can’t afford it yet –
he wants to get his business established, get
the deposit for a house, have enough for a big
wedding without sending themselves broke.
Bec’s happy enough to wait…for now. After all,
the last thing she ever wants is to emulate her
parents’ angry, messy, horrible marriage.
Matt aside, the most important person in
Bec’s life is her best friend Jenny. Jenny is the
one person who is dependable, always there
for her, who gives generously to the extent
she can.
All in all, everything in Bec’s life is ticking
along nicely. She has her Beauty Salon, good
friends and the love of her life. Her world is
nearly perfect and that’s the way she likes it.
