LLC Alumni Contributors “During my senior year I experienced a frustrating knee injury which took me out of both the fall and winter seasons. This was significant because not only was I a dedicated athlete but also because I had lost some scholarship offers. It was a rather random day long after the initial injury when Bro. Tom Cleary invited me into his office to talk. As I sat down in his office Bro. Tom explained that, despite my attempts to keep my frustrations to myself, he could tell something was bothering me. After discussing what had transpired, Bro. Tom put things in perspective and reminded me that when looking back on these events it would be the manner in which I handled them that would be most important to me. What I got from our brief meeting was the conviction that the Chaminade faculty members really do care about their students on a personal level. They dedicate their lives to making sure that the students who leave its halls not only succeed in life but also carry themselves well in times of both success and adversity. I have come to believe that the legacy of Chaminade is not measured by the credentials of its students or the great achievements of some of its graduates, but rather the fact that all Chaminade graduates have been well prepared to handle themselves with integrity and character.” Joseph Teitz, 2009 “In my four years at Chaminade no teacher has had more of an influence on me than Bro. Lawrence Syriac. Brother Lawrence has shown me what dedication truly is through everything he does. As a teacher he taught me more than I ever knew about social studies, as the moderator of Catholic League he taught me to stand up for what I believe in, and as a Brother he has shown me how to be more spiritual. I am now the president of the Catholic League at Chaminade and if it wasn’t for Bro. Lawrence I probably never would have joined the organization or have learned the valuable life lessons he has taught me.” 27
