Entering Chaminade in 1946, the orderly environment provided me the chance to settle down and the activities outside the classroom offered me the opportunity to expand and grow. Participation in intramural sports and the school’s baseball team helped get me out of myself and into the world around me.” Steven Arning, 2009 “I joined Emmaus in freshman year, and really came to enjoy it. Emmaus formally introduced me to volunteer work and to the importance of helping people. I realized that when you help people, sometimes you get more out of the experience than the person you are trying to help.” 9
