Saint Mary’s Names New Girl’s Basketball Coach
Ric Moreno, Director of Athletics and Activities, announced the naming
of Curtis Ekmark as new head coach of the girl’s basketball program.
Curtis Ekmark, a Lake Havasu High School graduate, attended
Marquette University where he played on the men’s basketball team. He is currently a lawyer practicing in the Scottsdale area.
Curtis is the founder and coach of the Arizona Warriors basketball program. No other program in the history of Arizona,
boys or girls, has had more success at the AAU Division I Nationals. They are the 2005 AAU Division I National Champions and the
2006 AAU Division I National Runners-up, placing second out of 100 teams competing. Curtis is also a coach for the Adidas Phenom
Top 100 camp held every summer in San Diego, California.
Curtis is married to Meg Ekmark, a former college tennis player and attorney. They have a twelve year old daughter,
Courtney, and a nine year old son, Andrew. “The priorities for our family are God, family, education and basketball,” said Ekmark.
“This opportunity at Saint Mary’s is a chance for me to share those values with a group of young adults.”
“My goal is to take this program to a national level,” said Ekmark.. “I am looking forward to working with talented girls who
want to develop their faith, get a great education, and prepare themselves for playing in college.” Ekmark would ultimately like to get
the program to a point where every girl is able to obtain a college scholarship.
“We are very excited to have Curtis on board and look forward to seeing his energy and enthusiasm spread across campus”,
said Moreno.
