Freshman Sabrina Ross was one of 35 selected area high school
students to visit several Historical Black Colleges& Universities
throughout the southeast on March 19-24. The group flew to
Atlanta and was then motorcoached. Schools visited were
Spelman, Morehouse, Clark-Atlanta , Tuskegee, Alabama State,
Tennessee State, & Fisk. They also visited the MLK Center, the
JUNE 2007
"Mr. Cunningham Goes to Washington"
For those of you too young to remember, a classic movie
starring Jimmy Stewart was titled "Mr. Smith Goes to
Washington." Junior Tommy Cunningham is headed to
Georgetown University for its Junior Statesmen Summer School
where he will take AP US Government & Politics. The program
includes a wide variety of events that will allow him to meet and
question political leaders. We wish Tommy all good things on
his summer adventure.
Lane Gallett To Washington
Junior Lane Gallett will be attending the The National Young
Leaders Conference (NYLC) in Washington, DC. This program
is designed to instruct and enrich promising students in a handson,
experiential atmosphere while preparing them for a lifetime
of leadership. NYLC offers students the opportunity to discuss
current events and issues with top policy makers in Washington,
D.C., analyze concepts, and then put them immediately to work.
This dynamic program features creative decision-making
simulations that challenge young minds to solve problems and
lead their peers through role-playing exercises in an energycharged
environment far from the traditional classroom
experience.
MR. RIDEAU'S NEW RESTAURANT
Chris Rideau was on our staff for nine years, most
recently in the Business Office. He also served as a football and
baseball coach. He has left Saint Mary's to pursue a lifelong
dream – to own and operate his own restaurant, in the tradition
of his grandfather and his father – and so was born Town Talk
II, the home of Creole Style Barbeque. Together with his father,
Charlie, the Rideaus now hold court at 3509 North 19th Avenue,
just north of Osborn Road, near Saint Gregory's.
Burleigh Rideau, Sr. moved to Phoenix from the tiny
town of Rideau, Louisiana in 1923. In 1949, Burleigh opened
the original Town Talk Barbeque, near 12th Street and
Washington. The unique blend of meats, slow cooked over
mesquite wood, with a mixture of his own special sauce,
provided one of the most flavorful meals to be enjoyed
anywhere. That same great taste -- with a perfect blend of meats
and sauce – has been reborn and you can find it at Town Talk II.
Party catering available. Phone No: 602-234-4745
greater Phoenix. Lisa will be attending health career related
programs and participating in labs and workshops with
