Debbie Daviau are planning a benefit luncheon<br />

from 2 to 6 p.m. at Admiral T.J. O’Brien’s.<br />

A $20 donation will provide you with a ticket<br />

for the buffet with proceeds going toward<br />

helping to offset rising medical expenses.<br />

Debbie has been battling cancer since 1996,<br />

but earlier this year, her condition took a turn<br />

for the worse <strong>and</strong> she will have to undergo further<br />

treatments. Treatments have left her<br />

weak <strong>and</strong> unable to do the things healthy people<br />

take for granted.<br />

Take the afternoon off <strong>and</strong> join us to support<br />

Debbie in her fight to beat cancer. Come<br />

for some good food, a few laughs <strong>and</strong> to take<br />

pride in knowing you helped a very special<br />

woman on her way to recovery.<br />

STURBRIDGE — The Taubl Family, Semi-<br />

Finalists on the popular "America’s Got<br />

Talent 2008" contest on NBC-TV this fall, will<br />

perform at 6 p.m. in the <strong>Sturbridge</strong> Worship<br />

Carol Taubl <strong>and</strong> their seven musically-gifted<br />

STURBRIDGE — The Opacum L<strong>and</strong> Trust<br />

will host the final presentation of the<br />

Botanical Inventory at Opacum Woods at 6:30<br />

Breakfast <strong>and</strong> lunch will be served <strong>and</strong> there<br />

will be raffles <strong>and</strong> a bake sale.<br />

ONGOING<br />

The AARP Foundation-sponsored tax<br />

preparation program, TaxAide, helps low- <strong>and</strong><br />

moderate- income persons prepare their federal<br />

<strong>and</strong> state income taxes during the tax season.<br />

The program is entirely managed <strong>and</strong><br />

staffed by volunteers. Volunteer counselors<br />

<strong>and</strong> client assistors are needed in all parts of<br />

Worcester County.<br />

No accounting experience is needed,<br />

although basic computer skills <strong>and</strong> e-mail<br />

access are necessary <strong>and</strong> basic acquaintance<br />

with tax issues is desirable. Training <strong>and</strong><br />

mentoring will be provided. One does not<br />

is business service ‘toolkit’<br />

STURBRIDGE — New <strong>and</strong> experienced<br />

business people will be able to build on their<br />

good ideas <strong>and</strong> get many questions answered<br />

about vital business services during a free<br />

Good Ideas Business Expo to be held at 9 a.m.,<br />

Saturday, Nov. 1.<br />

The first-time, Saturday morning event is<br />

sponsored by Community Business<br />

Associates, a networking group with members<br />

from <strong>Sturbridge</strong> <strong>and</strong> surrounding towns<br />

that meets twice monthly in the Oliver Wight<br />

Tavern at Old <strong>Sturbridge</strong> Village.<br />

The tavern will be the site of the Good Ideas<br />

Business Expo, for personal interaction with<br />

professionals in the areas of law, accounting,<br />

business banking, insurance, financial planning,<br />

web/marketing communications, printing,<br />

advertising, credit card processing, mortgage<br />

planning <strong>and</strong> real estate.<br />

"Members of our organization want to<br />

share ideas on a relaxed, business-to-business<br />

level at our event, a sort of mini-expo," said<br />

CBA President Bill Rol<strong>and</strong> of Charlton.<br />

"There will be brainstorming in an informal<br />

<strong>and</strong> personal atmosphere, which can be especially<br />

helpful – for people in new <strong>and</strong> existing<br />

Boy Scouts hold<br />

STURBRIDGE — Boy Scout Troop 161, sponsored<br />

by the <strong>Sturbridge</strong> Firefighters<br />

Association will be holding a can drive during<br />

the month of November in support of the<br />

REAS Foundation. REAS is the Residential<br />

Energy Assistance for Seniors Foundation a<br />

nonprofit group established to assist<br />

<strong>Sturbridge</strong> Elderly with heating assistance<br />

this winter. All returnable bottles <strong>and</strong> cans<br />

collected by the Scouts during the month of<br />

November will be donated to the REAS foundation.<br />

The can drive will run the full month of<br />

November <strong>and</strong> residents can drop off their<br />

Boy Scout troop 161 said, “I am proud the<br />

troop decided to participate in supporting<br />

REAS <strong>and</strong> the senior citizens of <strong>Sturbridge</strong>.<br />

The troop routinely collects cans to fund their<br />

trips <strong>and</strong> the boy scouting program in<br />

<strong>Sturbridge</strong>. Helping others is a key premise of<br />

the Boy Scouts of America, <strong>and</strong> this is a great<br />

lesson <strong>and</strong> community project for the scouts.”<br />

“The fact that the Boy Scouts wanted to<br />

pitch in <strong>and</strong> be part of this important community<br />

fund raising opportunity was no surprise<br />

seeking crafters for their annual Christmas<br />

Craft Fair to be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday<br />

Stageloft holds auditions<br />

STURBRIDGE — Stageloft Repertory theater,<br />

450 A Main St., announces open auditions<br />

for the following two shows: “M*A*S*H” <strong>and</strong><br />

“Woman in Mind.”<br />

“M*A*S*H” auditions will be from 7 to 9<br />

p.m., Tuesday <strong>and</strong> Thursday, Nov. 4 <strong>and</strong> 6.<br />

Those seeking an audition do not need an<br />

appointment. Cold readings will be provided.<br />

Actors to fill 15 male <strong>and</strong> 10 female adult roles<br />

are needed for this late January production.<br />

Auditions for “Woman in Mind” will be<br />

from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday <strong>and</strong> Thursday, Nov.<br />

11 <strong>and</strong> 13. The cast will include the open roles<br />

for five males <strong>and</strong> three females from their 20s<br />
