meal plans
We recognize that student schedules and
dining preferences vary; therefore, we have developed meal
plans to provide flexibility and convenience. For complete plan details, please visit
spu.edu/MealOptions. You will make your meal-plan choice on the Room and Meal
Plan Contract that is sent with your housing assignment.
Meal Plan Requirements
Residence Halls. All students living in Ashton, Hill, Emerson, and Moyer halls are
required to choose a quarterly meal plan, either the Unlimited or a Weekly Block plan.
Each plan combines access to the main dining hall (Gwinn Commons) with SPU Points
to spend at any dining location (see “Understanding Points” below). The more access
you have to Gwinn, the fewer points you’ll need to supplement your meal plan.
Unlimited Unlimited access to Gwinn Commons 7500 ($75) $1492
Weekly Block 21
Weekly Block 14
21 meals Sun–Sat (max 3 meals per day)
or a meal exchange* at a Simply to Go retail location.
A meal is considered an entrance into Gwinn Commons
or a meal exchange* at a Simply to Go retail location.
7500 ($75) $1492
1500 ($150) $1,409
The Unlimited plan allows you unlimited access to Gwinn during their service hours
— you can enter for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even stop in for a snack or two
during the day (please note: all food must be consumed in the dining hall).
Weekly Block 10
10 meals Sun–Sat (max 3 meals per day)
A meal is considered an entrance into Gwinn Commons
or a meal exchange* at a Simply to Go retail location.
22500 ($225) $1,342
If your class, work, or social schedule varies, you may want to choose a Weekly Block
plan, which allows you a certain number of entrances into Gwinn per week to use at
your discretion. For example, let’s say you are on the Weekly Block 14. On Sunday, you
eat breakfast and lunch at Gwinn. That evening, you choose to use your SPU points to
pick up a Subway sandwich for a study group with friends. Your two entrances into
Gwinn would be taken off of your balance of 14, leaving you with 12 to use for the
remainder of the week. The cost of your Subway sandwich would be deducted from
your point balance (see “Understanding Points” below). Block and point balances are
available from the cashier and via the Campus Card website at spu.edu/CampusCards.
Weekly Block 7
7 meals Sun–Sat (max 3 meals per day)
A meal is considered an entrance into Gwinn Commons
or a meal exchange* at a Simply to Go retail location.
30000 ($300) $1,287
Note: Quarterly plans renew each quarter unless a change form is submitted during specified periods.
Counts reset on Sunday morning; unused entries do not carry over to the next week. SPU Points roll
quarter to quarter, but not year to year. Students who use all of their SPU Points in a given quarter may
purchase Advantage Points.
Campus Apartments. Although not required, students living in campus apartments
may choose any plan, including a Block 25 (25 entrances into Gwinn), Block 50 (50
entrances into Gwinn), or Advantage Points (see below).
Understanding Points
SPU Points. Unlimited and Weekly Block plans come with SPU Points, which are worth
a penny a point and save you sales tax. For example, let’s say you have an Unlimited
plan, which includes 7500 ($75). You want to purchase a latte at Academic Perks for
$2.55. The cashier will deduct 255 points from your balance, leaving you with 7245
($72.45) to use the remainder of the quarter. Unused SPU Points will roll from quarter
to quarter, but not year to year. If you deplete your SPU points before the end of the
quarter, you may purchase Advantage Points.
Advantage Points. These points are used in the same manner as SPU Points but are
not linked to a quarterly meal plan. Unused Advantage Points will roll from quarter to
quarter and year to year until no activity is recorded for three consecutive quarters.
Additional points may be purchased as needed.
Block 50
A combination of 50 entrances into Gwinn Commons and
meal exchange* swipes at Simply to Go retail locations.
Advantage Points A declining balance plan that saves sales tax on purchases 1500 ($15) min.
Note: Per-purchase plans do not automatically renew; you may purchase additional blocks and points
at your convenience. Balances roll from quarter to quarter and year to year until no activity is recorded
for three consecutive quarters.
*Meal Exchange
The meal exchange feature allows a Block plan patron to use one of their meals to get three items from
the Simply to Go case at retail locations: an entrée, a side dish or dessert, and a beverage. Simply to Go
options are available at the Corner Place Market, Academic Perks, and Common Grounds.
