Whitehill, Stockport, Cheadle, Offerton and Marple
agencies to get an insight into
each other’s work and find out
how they work to help the same
people.
Simon added: “The Marple crew
were also able to taste the new
food menu provided by Meals on
Wheels and a two-course lunch
was warmly received on what was
a chilly day!”
Stockport team in Drive 2 Live
drama for students
THE moment someone loses
control of a car can be the same
moment that someone loses their
life.
Stockport students were asked to
imagine how they would feel as a
driver in that split second during a
day of activities to make them
think differently about driving.
GMFRS played a huge role in
making a real impact on sixth
formers at Aquinas College on the
Drive 2 Live day in December.
The day started with a play about
a group of young people who are
involved in a collision and was
followed by a shocking
demonstration from Whitehill and
Offerton’s Blue Watch firefighters
that showed the full horror of what
it’s like to be trapped in a car after
a collision.
GMFRS Community Safety
Advisor Oliver Harrison said: “The
day was a great success and the
students engaged with us and the
subject really well.”
Stockport wild garden tamed
by young offenders
A WILD and overgrown area of
Stockport Fire Station has been
transformed by a group of young
offenders and it is hoped it will
open doors to other projects.
Five young people and their
Restorative Justice officer spent
three consecutive Saturdays
making the thorny overgrown
former vegetable patch ready for
planting next spring.
Station Manager Chris Mycock
said: “About six years ago the
crews at Stockport created their
own green space at the side of
the station which incorporated a
greenhouse, patio area, chicken
run and vegetable garden, partly
for their own enjoyment and partly
to engage with local primary
schools as part of the Stockport
Schools Healthy Eating
Programme.”
“The garden had become
overgrown with bushes, weeds
and a particularly prolific
Japanese Wine Berry bush - nice
fruit but deadly thorns - which
appeared to be intent on taking
over every part of the area.”
