clear underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> <strong>Métis</strong> culture <strong>and</strong> <strong>Métis</strong>-specific needs. Moreover, staff generally<br />

felt dissatisfied with their underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> identified several ways to heighten their<br />

awareness. Enhanced cultural training was clearly important to staff. Findings suggest<br />

that additional training in culture <strong>and</strong> <strong>Métis</strong>-specific needs may help staff better serve<br />

<strong>Métis</strong> <strong>of</strong>fenders.<br />

In sum, the project provides a better underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> <strong>Métis</strong> <strong>of</strong>fenders, their families <strong>and</strong><br />

the front-line workers who assist them in the institutions. Results have implications for<br />

improved correctional programming inside federal facilities. Furthermore, results can<br />

help correctional administrators identify service gaps in the community for <strong>Métis</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong>fenders <strong>and</strong> the families.<br />
