PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES – JUNE 27, 2013
Present: Fr. Lou, Eric Ertzner, Lesha Berkel, George Minson, Beverly
Freed, Pat Ewen, Rob Kellis (Finance Council Chair), Jim
Ayres.
Absent: Ericka Young, Robert Flores, Joyce Navary, Karl Stafflinger,
Sr. Ann. The meeting opened with a prayer.
Finance Report: Rob presented financial data through 11 months.
He reported that, overall, it was a good year financially for St. Ann.
He added that we received $29,441 from our insurance claim regarding
the unfortunate circumstances surrounding our former bookkeeper.
$20,000 of this was put back into the fund designated for the
future purchase of a pastor’s house. The remaining $9441 was put
into our operating account.
Rob informed the Council that 3 bids have been accepted for recarpeting
the Worship space. They range from $27,000 to $31,000.
The Facilities Committee is reviewing that information. The target
date for installation would still be this summer. The Chapel may be
excluded from this re-carpeting effort to save $3000 - $4000.
Rob reported on the Increased Offering Program. Nearly one third of
the Parish responded (excellent response rate); more than a $95,000
increase in Sunday collections has been committed; the average increase
was over 30%. These are all excellent results.
Rob next discussed the 2013/2014 budget. In it, we have projected
$700,000 in Sunday collection income. This is an increase over this
year’s projected total by approximately $50,000. With the commitments
from the Increased Offering Program, this is a fairly conservative
objective.
The Council then discussed the fact that the vendor (Cathedral Corp)
for the Increased Offering Program is committed to working with St.
Ann for three years. They will help us get reminders and updates
published to the Parish on a regular basis.
Minutes: While reviewing the minutes from the May 23 meeting a
question was raised regarding the accuracy of the second to last paragraph
(“The Council agreed that once a parishioner gives formal
notification of their intent to resign, they will also have resigned
from any committees or ministries they are currently working with.”)
Some of the Council felt that more discretion in these situations was
discussed in May.
Job Posting Update: Pat Clement will start on July 1 as our Director
of Religious Education. The intention is to have her manage all
aspects of Religious Education for the Parish. With her extensive
background and experience, she is expected to strengthen all of our
XF programs.
The search committee continues to seek a replacement for Sr. Ann.
After reviewing several resumes, the committee interviewed 5 – 6
candidates. From there, they chose two for additional interviews.
They will be held on July 10.
Next the vacant Youth Minister position was discussed. While many
options have been reviewed (and continue to be), it is clear that the
program needs some stability. Having changed this position twice in
the past 4 years it is impossible to judge the potential of a wellorganized
youth ministry. Fr. Lou has interviewed an experienced
candidate and has asked additional, involved parishioners to interview
her as well. Fr. Lou would like to finalize this in July.
George commented that (in other faiths) this is the second most important
position they hire (after the pastor). He suggested that getting
our youth involved with parish life is critical for the future of the
Church.
Sr. Ann: Fr. Lou discussed this weekend’s Masses with Sr. Ann
making farewell comments to the Parish. There will be a special
blessing at each Mass, followed by a special song for this occasion.
This will be followed by hospitality The Council expressed its sincere
gratitude for all Sr. Ann has meant to this community. All acknowledged
that she will be greatly missed and very difficult to replace.
George moved to adjourn; Pat seconded.
The meeting closed with a prayer.
