Michelle Belto has been an artist and teacher since
1971. She holds a BA degree in Education, teaching
certifications in Art and Theater and an MA in Arts &
Consciousness from John F. Kennedy University. Her
work as a performer, presenter and visual artist spans
more than thirty years, three continents and thirteen
publications. Michelle is on the board or is a member
of several encaustic organizations and has exhibited
throughout the United States.
• This workshop-style book contains more than 20 step-by-step demos
each culminating in an inspiring gallery piece that encompasses the
demo’s technique
• Provides an alternative surface for encaustic paint and will interest the
intermediate level artist who is experimenting with new techniques
and substrates
• The combination of several mixed-media elements will appeal to a
wide audience from paper enthusiasts to painters and mixed-media
artists
• Includes a contributors gallery of art from some of the most innovative
artists working in paper and wax today
Encaustic artists are looking for options beyond the wood panel as a primary
support and are trying less traditional surfaces for their wax paintings. This
book brings mixed media artists, paper enthusiasts and encaustic painters
together in a renewed appreciation for the satisfying texture and feel of
paper as a canvas and the uniquely sensual quality of the wax surface. The
first part of the book is all about creating and preparing paper substrates
for wax, including working with commercial paper as well as instruction
for hand-making paper. The second part of the book demonstrates how
to paint with encaustics and how to incorporate various mixed media into
the surfaces of the paper. An inspirational gallery of works by some of the
most innovative artists in the field rounds out the book.
