INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
This year saw continued development of the Information Communication Technology
infrastructure and classroom programs. The opening of the new Centre for Scientific
Learning and Research enabled the School to make a significant leap forward in how we
equipped a modern classroom in terms of technology. Indeed, the new science rooms
have become the benchmark for all new classrooms within the School. State-of- the-art
wide screen (16:9) front projection smartboards with ELMO document cameras attached
for projecting flat, 3D and moving images were appreciated by staff and students.
Wireless Internet and network access throughout the building, access to data logging and
microscope projections and banks of laptop computers for student use redefined the
manner technology is used within Science at St Hilda’s School.
The Science staff are to be congratulated for the manner in which they worked to
professionally develop themselves on these new systems and to quickly and meaningfully
incorporate them into their everyday teaching practices. It is gratifying to see such an
investment in technology adapted so positively.
In 2009 the School continued to develop its wireless network coverage. With assistance
from government funding, during 2010 we will expand and enhance wireless capability in
the newly refurbished classroom block, into courtyards around the School, Junior School
classrooms and the Boarding School. This will increase the girls’ ability to access the
Internet via school-owned laptops and student-owned personal devices such as laptops,
iPods, PDAs and iPhones. We strongly believe that wireless network coverage supports
and encourages girls to use technology in their pursuit of excellence. We adopt the view
of most tertiary education campuses that students should be able to access curriculum
resources online while on campus and at home from a variety of devices.
Smartboard coverage is now complete across the School from Pre-Preparatory to Year 12.
We are one of the few schools in the country to have access to such equipment in every
