WHAT’S GOING ON AT ST. LUCY’S & ST. LUCY’S PARISH SCHOOL?
Festival News
Our 2012 Festival is right around the corner! Can you believe
it?
We will have sign up sheets in the Narthex beginning next
weekend, June 16th and 17th. Yard signs should also be
available that weekend or the next. We ask that you get them
up ASAP once available and please remember to return them
after Festival as they are always reused. Festival packets will
be mailed very soon; they will include raffle tickets and dinner
tickets. Additional raffle tickets will be available after Masses
or at the parish office. If you are not able to sell or purchase
your tickets (or a portion of), we ask that you return them so
we can use them during the festival. Donations for silent auction
and the rummage sale are greatly appreciated and critical
to our success. Also, beer and soda sponsorships ($80 a keg,
$20/2 cases of soda) go a long, long way towards the bottom
line.
Last but certainly not least—volunteering. Without your gracious
donation of time, we can’t have a festival. Year after
year you come through and show that great St. Lucy spirit. We
hope we can count on you again. It’s fun, it’s a big part of our
budget and we need you! Thanks and God Bless!
others, a fuller presence of God in your life, a fresh appreciation
of Scripture, a desire for Christian fellowship, one or more
understanding, then make plans to attend the Life in the Spirit
Seminar and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to
more greatly experience the power and presence of the Spirit
Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
For centuries, blood has been perceived as
the life force in humans. While most of us
garnered a rudimentary understanding of
the way blood functions during high school
science classes, the complexity of what
blood does as it courses through our bodies
is lost to most of us. We do know that heavy
bleeding is bad, and the loss of too much
blood can be fatal. Our bodies need blood.
But we can willingly part with some blood
with little consequence to our health (aside from maybe a brief
feeling of wooziness) when we donate blood to a local blood
bank.
In his death on the cross, Christ made the ultimate
donation of blood. He shed his blood and gave his life for our
salvation. When Jesus hands the cup to his disciples at the
Last Supper, he says to them, "This is my blood of the covenant,
which will be shed for many" (Mk 14:24). These words of
the Lord are repeated at every Mass, reminding us that it is
more than wine in the chalice we take up, and more than
bread in the host we consume. Christ gives his flesh as real
food, and his blood as real drink.
As we celebrate this solemnity of the Most Holy Body
and Blood of Christ, and the deep mystery that exists in that
sacrament of Christ's gift to us, we realize that we are weak
human beings as we stand before the power of God. In receiving
the body and blood of Christ we are renewed, nourished,
and healed. Like a blood transfusion for an ailing individual,
the sacrament of Christ's body and blood gives us strength for
our daily lives. Fortified by Christ, we can no longer be anemic
in our faith. Rather, with the full vigor that comes from regularly
sharing in the Eucharist we live out our lives as Christians
filled with love for God and neighbor.
Welcome to St. Lucy’s Catholic Church • June 10, 2012

Dear Parishioners of St. Lucy’s,
As we have celebrated the Easter season together, and last week celebrated the mystery
of the Trinity, this weekend we have a chance to celebrate Corpus Cristi, or the Body
and Blood of Christ. A celebration like this is important for us as a Church because we
can easily take the Eucharist for granted given the frequency of which we are exposed
to it. Our Lord Jesus Christ, who although has ascended into heaven, continues to
make himself present in our life by giving us His Body and Blood. Eating His flesh and
drinking His blood is what gives us eternal life. Our oneness in Him begins at Baptism,
but is renewed always through Penance and Eucharist. By eating this heavenly food we
are allowing Him to spiritually change us. The weakness of our humanity is strengthened
by His divinity. As we continue to consume Him in the Eucharist, we are then consumed by Him as He
draws us all into Himself. This makes us all a part of the One Body of Christ. It is this reality that connects us
with all the faithful throughout the world. As I have been with you at St. Lucy’s these past two years, the experience
that we have all shared in frequently has been the Eucharist. Through priesthood God has used me as
an instrument to make these mysteries present here at Lucy’s these past two years. As many of you know, the
Archbishop has asked me to be the new administrator for St. Elizabeth parish in Kenosha effective June 19th.
As I am with you for only a few more days, I wish to thank you as a parish. My ministry here at St. Lucy’s has
been a wonderful blessing. I have really enjoyed being here and I will really miss you. As I move just a few
minutes south let us continue to keep each other in prayer. As we experience the Eucharist, realize that we are
still just as much connected as we have always been because we are united in Christ through His Body and
Blood. May God continue to
bless you and draw you into
Himself.
Fr. Sean Granger
Please join fellow parishioners in wishing Fr. Sean well in his
new assignment. We will gather in the Narthex on June 17th following
the 10:30am Mass. Yummy refreshments will be served!

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
