wish to place conditions on a student to ensure that<br />

he/she can safely return to residence hall living or the<br />

<strong>Marymount</strong> <strong>University</strong> community. The university will<br />

provide reasonable accommodations to assist the student<br />

in meeting his/her requirements for return to residential<br />

living or the <strong>Marymount</strong> <strong>University</strong> community.<br />

The <strong>Student</strong> Health Center does not provide individual<br />

notes for students' class absences and strictly enforces<br />

the "no note" policy. If a student is absent from a given<br />

class due to illness, the student is responsible for<br />

communicating with his/her professor and adhering to<br />

the class syllabus standards. In specific circumstances,<br />

verification of absence with an individual professor can<br />

be arranged for students under the care of the <strong>Student</strong><br />

Health Center, with the student's written permission.<br />

Should a student have an extended absence of more<br />

than three consecutive class days, a formal absence<br />

letter can be obtained, with appropriate documentation,<br />

through the <strong>Student</strong> Development Office.<br />

Schedule of Operations<br />

The <strong>Student</strong> Health Center is open Monday–Friday<br />

7 a.m.–midnight; Saturday–Sunday noon–10 p.m.<br />

The Health Center is closed during Thanksgiving and<br />

Christmas vacations, and Spring Break. It is open 9<br />

a.m.–5 p.m. during the week between the end of spring<br />

semester and Commencement. The Health Center will<br />

be open for limited healthcare hours throughout the<br />

summer months.<br />

<strong>Student</strong> Health Insurance<br />

All full-time <strong>Marymount</strong> students are required to have<br />

health insurance. The university offers a comprehensive<br />

health insurance plan in accordance with the Affordable<br />

Care Act, which students may waive if they have<br />

adequate coverage in the Commonwealth of Virginia.<br />

The Financial Aid Office provides financial and debt<br />

management counseling, coordinates financial<br />

aid awards, and makes applications and program<br />

information available to all students. Aid awards are<br />

made by the director in accord with federal, state, and<br />

university guidelines. Approximately 82% of full-time<br />

undergraduates currently receive financial aid. Both<br />

need-based and achievement-based aid is available.<br />

Kinds of Aid<br />

Three types of financial aid are available:<br />

1. Grants and scholarships, which do not have to be<br />

repaid. Virginia residents who are enrolled full-time<br />

for graduate or undergraduate study can receive the<br />

Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG), if application is made<br />

before the deadline. (Graduate students must be<br />

enrolled in a health-related program.)<br />

2. Loans, which are available to eligible students at<br />

lower interest rates than commercial bank loans<br />

and are generally repaid following graduation.<br />

Information on applying for student loans is<br />

provided with a student’s financial aid award.<br />

3. Employment programs, which provide paychecks<br />

in return for hours worked. Employment is offered<br />

through the Federal Work-Study program (a form of<br />

need-based aid awarded by the Financial Aid Office)<br />

or Campus Employment (available to all students,<br />

regardless of need). All full-time students are eligible<br />

to apply for on-campus jobs. <strong>Student</strong>s may view<br />
