– Factors affecting the accessibility of <strong>TB</strong> services for vulnerable groups<br />
Nongovernmental and community organizations should:<br />
• Investigate opportunities to integrate <strong>TB</strong> and <strong>TB</strong>/HIV activities into existing HIV/<br />
AIDS-related programming and activities, including by<br />
– Examining lessons learned from effective NGO advocacy on HIV/AIDS to<br />
gauge applicability to greater advocacy on <strong>TB</strong>;<br />
– Promoting <strong>TB</strong> awareness-raising and treatment-literacy activities among networks<br />
of people living with HIV/AIDS;<br />
– Integrating enhanced support services for people living with HIV/AIDS with<br />
<strong>TB</strong>;<br />
– Developing and implementing <strong>TB</strong>/HIV-specific stigma-reduction activities;<br />
– Identifying people living with HIV/AIDS who have been cured of <strong>TB</strong> to act<br />
as spokespeople and leaders in targeted stigma-reduction and <strong>TB</strong> awarenessraising<br />
activities among people living with HIV/AIDS.<br />
• Articulate specific needs for additional (and more context-specific and culturally<br />
sensitive) information on <strong>TB</strong> and <strong>TB</strong>/HIV.<br />
• Assist in the development of patient-friendly information and communications<br />
materials on <strong>TB</strong> and <strong>TB</strong>/HIV.<br />
• Assist in development and implementation of targeted outreach services for vulnerable<br />
groups.<br />
• Seek out opportunities for participating in <strong>TB</strong> policymaking processes at the<br />
national, regional, and local levels.<br />
