A 2 or 3 month exchange can be carried out
during the New Zealand summer holidays.
Depart after your New Zealand exams and return
before the new school year – the advantage
is that when you return to NZ you can
continue with your studies and will not have
missed any school.
In Europe the school year begins in August/
September and ends in June, which means
that you can try high school abroad during
your summer holiday. The short stay programmes
give you the opportunity to experience
a different school system and develop
your skills in a foreign language.
Students can also depart for 2 or 3 months
in our January and August departures. Please
refer to the enclosed Programme Fee sheet
for prices and availability.

Join our exciting
21-day European Tour
This exciting 21-day tour is commences and finishes in beautiful
Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. During three summer weeks
you will experience the Northern Hemisphere. You will travel
through 10 countries and experience, among other fascinating places,
Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Amsterdam and of course Disneyland
in Paris. You will explore the Alps in Switzerland and visit
the romantic city Venice in Italy in a genuine gondola. It will be an
exciting mix of big cities and spectacular nature.
ProgramME information
Who can participate?
To join our programme, you need to be a full-time high
school student during the term prior to your departure
and be between 15 and 18 years of age at the time of
departure. You also need to show average to above
school results over the past two years.
How to apply
Please fill in & sign the pre-application form on page
19 and send it with a copy of your most recent school
report to STS Student Travel Schools, P O Box 1399,
Invercargill 9840. A fee of $50 is payable at pre-application,
by cheque or electronic transfer. If you apply
online please send your school report separately
via mail or email to sts.nz@xtra.co.nz. Our office will
contact you on receipt of your pre-application form,
to start the full application process and to arrange your
interview meeting.
Acceptance
Your acceptance on the STS programme will depend
mainly on your teacher’s recommendation, your academic
results, your personal maturity, positive attitude
and motivations to go on exchange. You will receive
a letter of preliminary acceptance or non-acceptance
after your stage 1 paperwork and interview report has
been fully assessed by our office. Final acceptance will
be notified upon completition of your full application
and your host country's assessment of your file.
Programme closing dates
As finding the right family and school for you can take
time, it helps us – and you – if we receive your preapplication
form as soon as possible. Please note the
following pre-application closing dates:
Departure January: 1 September
Departure August: 1 April
Departure November: 1 July
Departure December: 1 August
Late applications may be accepted depending on the
space availiability. Should a late applicant be accepted
into the programme, the full fees due and payable on
that date will be required.
Programme fees
The programme fee is paid in four instalments, the
first of which is payable within 10 days of preliminary
acceptance onto the programme. Further instalments
are payable according to the payment schedule accompanying
this brochure. Due to possible international
currency fluctuations, changes in airline policy
or any other factors beyond the control of STS Student
Travel Schools, STS reserves the right to make any adjustments
to any of its fee of no more than 10%. For
programme fees to all countries, area choice in the
USA and France and Preparation Course costs for the
USA, France and Italy, please see the accompanying
programme fee sheet.
Personal expenses not covered in the program fee
Personal expenses include pocket money, mobile
phone and internet, excess luggage, transportation
to and from school, school lunches, language tuition,
school uniform, club fees, toiletries, clothing, excursions,
other travelling, visa costs and insurance cover.
All exchange students are required to have an insurance
cover. STS offers a very comprehensive and attractive
insurance package which includes illness and
repatriation, disability and death, personal liability, legal
assistance, curtailment, travel documents, luggage
and luggage delay, delay of insurance and evacuation.
Details of this package are available to all students
upon acceptance to the programme.
Cancellation and refund policy
If cancellation is received more than 60 days before
departure, 50% of the programme fees are forfeited.
Within 60 days of departure, the cancellation fee is
75% of the amount already paid. If at any stage it is
felt by STS that a suitable placing can not be offered,
the full amount paid will be refunded. Programme
fees are not refundable after departure from the home
country.
Domestic flights
Domestic flights to the point of international departure
and return within your home country are included
in the programme fee where necessary.
First country choice
Make sure your exchange programme guarantees
this. It is not a good start to be sent to somewhere
you do not wish to go. First country choice is subject
to Government requirement in each country, students
need to apply early, we do have some quota countries.
Host & Go
$1,500 discount payable at the end of a successful
years hosting. Families can only host and receive the
discount after careful STS screening, including police
checking as per Ministry of Education requirements.
This discount is subject to the availability of Inbound
students.
