Our story<br />
It’s the story of how architect Arne Jacobsen<br />
and manufacturer Verner Overgaard joined<br />
forces to create something original,<br />
beautiful and timeless.<br />
An uncompromising vision<br />
Working in the 1950s and 60s, leading<br />
Danish architect Arne Jacobsen epitomised<br />
the Danish Modern style, blending elegant<br />
functionalism with organic forms. He<br />
designed St Catherine’s College, Oxford<br />
and the National Bank of Denmark,<br />
among other influential buildings.<br />
However, his vision did not end with the<br />
completion of a building. He often<br />
designed every element of its furniture<br />
and fittings, in order to achieve a totally<br />
integrated space – classical in its sense<br />
of proportion and attention to detail, but<br />
appropriate to the modern world.<br />
Many of Jacobsen’s furniture designs,<br />
including the ‘Ant’ chair from 1952 and<br />
the ‘Egg’ chair designed for the Radisson<br />
SAS Hotel in Copenhagen, are regarded<br />
as classics.<br />
Partners in design<br />
Verner Overgaard, owner of longestablished<br />
and innovative manufacturer<br />
<strong>Vola</strong>, was looking for a designer who could<br />
realise his idea for a revolutionary new<br />
product: a tap with a wall-mounted mixer<br />
whose mechanical parts were concealed<br />
within the wall, leaving only the handle<br />
and spout visible.<br />
When Arne Jacobsen came to his<br />
attention through his award-winning Bank<br />
of Denmark project, Overgaard knew<br />
he’d found a partner as committed to<br />
modernist form and function as himself.<br />
For his part, Jacobsen immediately saw<br />
the new product’s potential and its<br />
relevance to his own design ethic.<br />
International recognition<br />
The <strong>Vola</strong> design as we know it today<br />
first went into production in 1968. It won<br />
international acclaim and design<br />
awards from the Museum of Modern Art<br />
in New York, the Kunstgewerbemuseum<br />
Cologne and the Cincinatti Art Museum,<br />
among others.<br />
A modern classic<br />
Of course, technology moves on. In more<br />
than 35 years of production, <strong>Vola</strong>’s<br />

Composition<br />
The <strong>Vola</strong> range is built on a modular system comprising<br />
valves, handles, outlets, finishing plates and accessories.<br />
These components can be used in an infinite numberof<br />
ways to meet any requirement whether it be kitchen,<br />
bathroom, shower room or utility area.<br />
All <strong>Vola</strong> in-wall mixers are available with integral or remote<br />
outlets making it possible to position control handles and<br />
spouts independently. Short, medium or long levers are<br />
available on most models to ensure easy whatever the<br />
application. Spouts for kitchen, wash basin, bath or bidet<br />
are offered in various sizes as standard. However, special<br />
sizes are available on request.<br />
All wall combinations are supplied with circular finishing<br />
flanges or a choice of 2,3 or 4 hole rectangular plates<br />
allowing handles, outlets and accessories to be grouped<br />
together giving the appearance of a single unit.<br />
Mixer and stop valves<br />
The many different valve options offered by <strong>Vola</strong><br />
enable the specifier to select the unit most suitable for<br />
the required purpose whether a water-saving mixer for<br />
wash basin, or a high flow combination for bath filling.<br />
Most <strong>Vola</strong> mixing valves are suitable only for use with<br />
pumped or pressurised hot water systems though a<br />
small selection can be used with gravity feed hot and<br />
cold - please ask your distributor for details.<br />
As part of the strict quality control at <strong>Vola</strong> A/S, every<br />
<strong>Vola</strong> component is thoroughly tested before leaving<br />
the factory. Under normal working conditions <strong>Vola</strong> mixer<br />
cartridges are maintenance-free for a minimum period<br />
of 5 years after installation.<br />
Maintenance<br />
It is not neccessary to clean the colour ad chrome<br />
surfaces with a detergent. Wiping with a damp cloth daily<br />
is all that is required. The polished brass surface requires<br />
cleaning with a brass cleaner. Non acid-based cleaners<br />
must be used when cleaning <strong>Vola</strong> stainless stell products.<br />
Lime-scale build-up can be removed form spout filiters or<br />
aerators by soaking in vinegar for a few hours.<br />
Service-kits and other wearable parts are available form<br />
your <strong>Vola</strong> distributor. Please contact <strong>Vola</strong> customer service<br />
for assistance.<br />
