Making the concrete<br />
slab<br />
<strong>The</strong> concrete slab is 1.2m in<br />
diameter and uses 12 litres<br />
Portland cement and 60 litres clean<br />
sharp river sand.<br />
It can be made in a special steel<br />
shuttering. Special moulds are<br />
available to make vent and squat<br />
holes. <strong>The</strong> slab is reinforced with 3<br />
– 4mm steel wire arranged in a grid<br />
formation at 15cm spaces. It is<br />
cured for at least 7 days in the wet<br />
state. This is made first<br />
whilst the pit is dug and lined with<br />
bricks
