Nobles and Ladies, 

What a great Tangier Ball! The food 

was outstanding and our own Frank 

Vondra, Jr. and his Lady did a wonderful 

job entertaining us. Breakfast was great, 

and as always eye openers were quite 

good. I would like to thank Bill and 

Colleen German, Rod and Angie 

Larsen, Curt and Carol Edic, Frank 

Vondra Jr. and Kristen, along with all 

who helped make a great Ball. What a 

wonderful job they did! I would also 

like to thank the Knights of Saint Andrew who did an 

outstanding job of keeping the adult beverages flowing. 

We had a one day Blue Lodge on April 9th, with 16 

new masons receiving their Master Mason degree. After 

the one day we brought in 7 new Shriners. Welcome to 

Tangier Nobles and Ladies. We look forward to seeing you 

all around Tangier and at activities. 

We had a nice Friendship dinner at the Masonic Center 

in Council Bluffs. It was very well attended and well done. 

Thanks to all who made it happen. 

Our Directors Staff sure made Tangier proud by hosting 

the Shrine Directors Staff meeting. There were Shriners 

here from all over the United States and Canada. We are 

still hearing from them as to the Feztastic time they had 

in Tangier Land. 

We must all work on membership. I can tell you that 

Tangier is in great shape, however we must increase our 

membership to make sure the future is taken care of. When 

you bring in three new members in 2011, you get your 

2012 dues paid for. 

It is time to start making your plans for CSSA in 

Overland Park, Kansas. Let’s have a large Tangier party 

this year at CSSA. If you have never been, you need to 

see what a great time can be had. If you haven’t been 

for a while, remember what a great time you had before. 

Together we can in 2011.

We have changed the date of the next Bloodmobile from 

May 9 to May 16, 2011. The times are the same. I hope this 

change will not affect the number who usually register for 

each Drive. Our goal is 25 pints of whole blood and to hit this 

goal we will need about 35 registered to donate. I know I can 

count on you to help us reach this goal. 

I still have not heard from the Red Cross regarding the unusually 

high number of deferrals we had in February. I will continue to 

check with Mia until we get a satisfactory explanation. I also 

intend to review the regular reading material to see if we have 

been missing some changes that have been made. 

Some of you may have seen or heard about the article that 

appeared in a recent USA Today. Bob Vondrasek called this to 

my attention. I discussed it with our Red Cross representative and 

have not had a reply. As I read the article I did not see the time 

frame they were working under or if you had to exceed your quota 

in order to be recognized. 

Our Blood Drive for August will also be delayed until the 

third week. After that we will be back to the second Monday to 

coincide with Scottish Rite meetings.

We made it through March Madness and 

enjoyed April Showers (I hope), so now we 

can enjoy the May flowers in addition to the 

flowering trees and bushes. A new lease on 

life, and the lawn mowers are humming their 

tune. 

MAY - the remembering month! May 8th 

- Mother’s Day - We remember our Mother 

in an approprate manner. Armed Forces Day 

will be celebrated on May 21. A good time to 

say “Thank you” to those you know who are 

serving, or have served, in the military service. 

May 30th - Memorial Day Observance - We 

pause to reflect and honor those dear to us 

who have passed on. TIME, marches on! 

Golden Girls will meet on Tuesday, May 

10th at twelve noon. Usual place - lower level 

(Oasis room) of the Shrine Center. Betty Bligh 

and Sally Larsen will serve as hostesses. 

Bessie Dick, Dorothy Hallgrimson, Muriel 

Springer, and Sally Swancutt will celebrate 

(add on another year to their age) their 

birthday during May. 

Hear ye! Hear Ye! Three cheers for the 

dedicated Tangier Shriners who will be 

participating in summer parades commencing 

this month. Plan to attend and cheer them on. 

In closing, a gentle reminder to have the 

AC serviced and plant the annuals.

Motor B

What a great month! We had four new 

additions to Motor B. We would like to 

welcome Rodger, Gregg, Ryan, and Chuck to 

the unit. 

Nice weather in now getting to be the 

norm, dodging spring showers every now and 

then. We’ve gotten the winter gas burnt out of 

our gas tanks and a fresh oil change, ready for 

the summer rides. We are looking forward to 

the parades, the Shrine Bowl on June 4th, and 

then a short ride to Weston, MO. 

We are going to divert from normal 

meeting place at the Farmhouse Cafe in May 

and June and turn these into nice short dinner 

rides. May 2nd we are riding to Parker’s 

Smokehouse south of Ashland, NE. We will 

be leaving the Shrine Center at 6:15 and 

eating at 7:00. For the folks that live out 

west, we will pick you up at the McDonald’s 

at Nebraska Crossing at 6:30. Then on June 

6th to we will be riding to the Dew Drop Inn 

in McClelland, IA. Join us if you can. 

Ride safe and watch for motorcycles.

It will be May when most of us are reading 

this article. The Tangier Parade season will 

finally be here. The Corvette Club members 

are getting our Corvettes started, cleaned, 

gassed up, insured and ready to go for a fun 

season. Everyone seems to enjoy the chance 

to show off their cars. I anticipate another 

parade season of a great turnout and support 

from the club. 

We continue to have a large showing at 

our monthly meetings. Thanks everyone! But 

remember, it is also important that we attend 

our Temple meetings and also support other 

units and clubs of Tangier when possible. 

Our club has several functions and activities 

coming up that will require the participation 

and involvement of our members and their 

ladies. A few include manning our location 

for SHBD at the end of April, supporting the 

Soccer Classic, the Shrine Bowl, and also the 

Show and Shine. We are also GEARIN’ UP 

for CSSA 2011. I anticipate a great showing 

this year from our members. 

That’s all for now. More to come next 

month. I want to personally thank all that 

support our club and Tangier. Be active, have 

fun and enjoy. Also, remember to support 

your Blue Lodge when possible. Let’s all 

have a great summer. Movin on! 

From Keith Kortright: See I told you he 

is not invisible, our Leader has a voice. One 

swell guy! 

Look out the “Rat Pack” is out in force 

with road trips every 2 or 3 weeks. We just 

got back from Elkhorn Iowa, a true Dutch 

community with a real old time wind mill 

in the middle of town. While we were in 

Larsen’s Pub, Neil & Brenda Larsen opened 

up early to accommodate us for lunch. They 

told us that if you’re not Dutch you cannot 

marry any of the local girls. Once I heard that 

I was ready to go. Then in walked the local 

newspaper reporter wanting to know all about 

us and how we picked their town for a visit. 

I’m sure Tangier and how we help Children 

will be mentioned in their local paper. 

The next trip we are planning we’ll be 

heading straight west. The Pack will be 

taking in some of the beautiful scenery of 

Western Nebraska with a few nourishment 

and nature stops from time to time.

From last month into this 

month, the Chanters assisted at Shrine 

Hospital Benefits Days at a local Bakers Food 

Store. On April 29, the Chanters’ performance 

for Fontenelle Chapter, Order of the Eastern 

Star as they hosted a metro-area Matrons and 

Patrons visitation was certainly well received. 

Although many of us Chanters are a bit 

“long-in-the-tooth,” one member became 

a first-time father in March. The new dad, 

Michael J. Nelson, became an official 

member of the Chanters in January 2005, 

and is the son of former Chanter Al Nelson. 

He is the seventh generation of Masons in 

his family. His accomplishments thus far in 

life are achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, 

he graduated from Papillion LaVista High 

School in 2000, completed a four year 

enlistment in the Marine Corps, got married 

to my daughter, Andrea, in 2007, and now has 

made me a proud grandfather. He was raised 

a Master Mason in 2004, and joined Tangier 

Shrine in 2004. This should also illustrate that 

the Chanters welcome Nobles who can sing, 

both young and “young at heart.” 

Coming up on May 14th, the Chanters 

have been asked to sing for the Ladies of new 

Nobles at the Women’s Luncheon during the 

Spring Ceremonial. It is expected that we will 

sing at about 11:00 am at the DoubleTree 

Hotel. That’s my update for May. 

Richard Byrd said: “Singing is such an 

excellent thing, that I wish all people would 

sing.” Any Noble with a joy for music and 

interested in joining us should contact any 

Chanter or meet us on most Mondays at the 

Shrine Center for 7:30 pm practice.

Hi Clowns! I want to thank everyone 

who volunteered to help out with Shrine 

Hospital Benefit Days. We had more 

people step up and help out this year than 

I have seen in the last several years. As 

Clowns, we are a very recognizable face 

for the Shriners, and it is very important 

that we come out in force. One nice thing 

about doing SHBD in Clown make-up is 

that we really don’t have to ask people 

for a donation, because in my experience, 

most people come up to us with money in 

hand. 

The 2011 parade season is now upon 

us. We kick of this year on May 14th at 

the Florence Days parade. This is by far 

my favorite parade of year, and I hope to 

see a huge turnout. I expect that we have 

the fire truck there that day, but we will be 

towing it on the trailer. Those of you who 

usually meet us down there near Kelly’s 

Bowling alley, we will not be able to pick 

you up this year, so we will have to make 

other arrangements, but we will figure 

something out. 

Special congratulations go out this 

month to Bryan “Squiggles” Deming, 

who was selected to go up with the Shrine 

Bowl football players to the Shriner’s 

Hospital as our Clown representative. This 

is a special honor that all Clowns should 

look forwards to doing sometime in their 

Clown career, as that trip can really change 

how you look at the work we are doing as 

Shriners and as Clowns. 

Finally, we decided that we are going 

to move the Clown Chili Feed to October 

in hopes that we do not have to fight the 

weather like we have done in the last 

couple of years. That means that we will 

be having another Chili Feed this year. 

I have all the confidence in the Clowns 

that we can work hard and make this a 

big success. I even considered changing 

the name of the fundraiser to the Clown 

Chili Extravaganza, but I don’t think the 

Director of the Directors Staff would 

appreciate us borrowing his idea. 

Thank you guys for all the hard work 

that you do, and I will see you at our next 

meeting on May 6th!

Director’s Staff

Congratulations everyone, the 

SDA convention is over and it was an 

overwhelming success. I need to thank 

everyone for their tireless efforts that made 

the convention one of the best ones ever. 

As you all know, we have been preparing 

for this a long time and it is finally over. I 

heard nothing but praise about how things 

went. Everything went even better than 

expected. I need to give a special thanks to 

our committee chairs; Gary Unger as our 

committee chairman, Dale Pennington with 

registration (Kathy too), I.B. Joe Beister on 

transportation, Randy Behounek on housing, 

Frank Bianco and Herby for getting gift 

bags together, Jeremy Myers with the A/V 

and last but not least my lady Jenny and the 

rest of the Ladies for the wonderful job they 

did with the Ladies tours and lunches. To 

the rest of the Directors Staff who helped 

out, you did great. I can’t say how proud I 

am of all of you. I also need to thank the 

people that helped out so much that are not 

Directors Staff members. Jack Schram and 

Bill Harper helped out our own Terry Cavin 

at the airport greeting people and pointing 

them in the right direction. Donna Hadcock 

really helped us a great deal with registration. 

It was a great surprise to see Illustrious Sir 

Don Madson show up to meet and greet 

people in the lobby at the hotel. What a neat 

deal. Everyone really enjoyed him. Thank 

you so much for your time, Don. Jim Hirl 

put on a great spread for our Wednesday 

social at the Shrine, and the Pirates catered 

one of the best western barbeques that SDA 

has ever seen. The support we received from 

our Divan was also greatly appreciated. You 

really represented us well and I thank all of 

you. 

With a huge event like SDA finally over 

the only thing to do is look ahead. There 

is never much rest for members of the 

Directors Staff. It’s a good thing we enjoy 

each other as much as we do since we are 

always together. We have Shrine Hospital 

Benefit Days here already, Ceremonial 

is just around the corner and guess what, 

parade season is upon us. So much for a 

little R&R. But as per usual we will handle 

it in true Directors Staff fashion. 

I would like to congratulate our newest 

member to the Directors Staff Leroy 

Fuglsang and Lady Jan. Welcome to the 

Staff. We are pleased to have you. If you 

or someone you know would like to be a 

member of the Directors Staff, contact me 

or any member of the Directors staff or just 

come to a meeting. We meet on the fourth 

Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in the 

basement of the Shrine.

Ladies of the Household… I think spring 

is here to stay! And frankly, I’m ready for 

summer! Thank you to everyone that helped 

make Sat-ra’s Installation of Officers so 

special. From those that coordinated to 

those that attended – it was a great day and 

you all helped make it so! 

Our first Session is under our belts and 

our next will be an evening Session on 

May 5. Dinner is at 5:30 and Session will 

begin at 7:00 pm. In May, we’ll also have 

our first Ceremonial of the year, so mark 

May 21st on your calendar. The luncheon 

will be at 11:30 and the Ceremonial will 

begin at 1:00 pm. We will be honoring our 

Past Queens so it will be a special time. 

The plates are here! If you would like 

an exclusive, Peggy Karr Daughters of 

the Nile plate, please contact PQ Beverly 

Donham or any officer! 

Looking ahead to summer, most of the 

Officers will be in Tampa, Florida for 

Supreme Session June 12-16. We hope to 

pick up tons of new ideas to bring back 

with us. Also in June is the 4th annual 

White Rose Garden Walk. It will be on 

Sunday, June 26 – rain or shine, noon to 

5:00 pm. See a Nile member for tickets and 

information! And remember, all proceeds 

go to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation 

to support the Shriners Hospitals for 

Children.

It’s Parade Time! We start with Florence 

on May 14th. Our float Chairman Jack 

Oxenrider has lined up the drivers and they 

have all been studying the parade routes so 

that the back seat drivers won’t be needed 

to take us directly back to our cars after the 

parade! Jack has the float ready so all Greeters 

and Greeter Gals can enjoy the parade. Our 

float can seat 30 greeters, so let Director Phil 

Pilakowski know which parades you will 

attend! Remember, you can sit and ride on 

this float, and it has a retractable awning that 

protects us from the sun or rain. The fresh air, 

the sun, the excitement of the crowd makes 

this the most positive way that the Shrine can 

present itself to our community. 

Director Philip and Lady Tricia thank those 

who handed out materials at the Tangier Ball, 

who baked and worked “Oodles of Noodles”, 

and especially those who worked Shrine

Howdy Cuzins! Greetings from the hills 

of Nebraska! Corn Shucker Clan #98 is 

up and running! I hope you have thawed 

all the way our and are ready fer summer. 

Big congratulations to Cousins Joe Stom 

and Lady Jenny on a very successful SDA 

convention. Also, congratulations go out to 

Illustrious Sir Bob and Lady Suz on another 

successful Hospital Benefit Days. A lot of the 

cousins and their Ladies helped out again this 

year to make it a successful fund raiser. Great 

work everyone! 

On the Hill Billy front, we go lots to report. 

On March 24th an official Bizness meeting 

was held at the Shrine Center. A whole bunch 

of Horse-D-overs, main, and side dishes were 

furnished by the membership. There were 

even some desserts. Who knew Gooseberries 

didn’t come from Geese?!? We took care of 

a lot of bizness stuff too. The Corn Shucker 

Clan #98 pins are in and look great! Thanks 

to Ralph for undertaking that project! The 

pins are available for only $4.00 each or 5 for 

$20.00. See Ralph or Jim for pins. Anyone 

can buy them if they want one (or ten). 

We also elected officers. The following 

folks got suckered into office: Rabban of the 

Clan: Jim Sklenar; Keeper of the Cob: IB Joe 

Beister; Guardian of the Still: Eric Hadcock; 

Keeper of the Till: Ralph Joos, PP; and 

Keeper of the Quill: John Wonder, PP. 

We set the date of the Spring initiation: 

Saturday, June 18th at Ralph and Judy’s 

hideout near Springfield. If you can help out 

with the degree work, food, or other stuff,

The next bizness meetin’ is going to be at 

the Shrine Center on Thursday, April 28th. 

Meeting only; no meal will be served. We will 

discuss the details of the initiation, parade 

season, and possibly having a state-wide 

Hill Billy git-together with the other clans 

in the Fall. In other news, Imperial Rabban 

Clyde Blevins asked that I remind y’all that 

the International Hill Billy Convention is in 

Sarasota Florida, September 19 – October 2.

Tangier Band

April has been busy for the 

Tangier Band. On April 1st, 

the newly formed Tangier 

Dixieland Band played for the Shrine 

Directors National Convention at the Red 

Lion. On April 3rd the Dixieland Band 

played for the Potentate’s breakfast, and 

coincidentally enjoyed eye-openers and 

great food. The band also played for the 

monthly Business Meeting on the 14th, 

and will be collecting for the Shrine 

Hospital Benefit Days on April 29th and 

30th. 

As parade season gets closer, we are 

still looking for someone to play the crash 

cymbals when we march. We are also 

always looking for new members who have 

played brass, woodwind, or percussion 

instruments in the past. Call Dave Krecek

392-7827 if you are interested. 

Spring is already here and our members 

are getting excited for warmer weather! 

Some have already been seen cruising 

down the road with their tops down! Parade 

season is almost on us again and we will 

be ready, shined and waxed, escorting our 

Masonic youth in the parades! 

Our unit has been active in another great 

hamburger night. Many thanks to Pete 

Larson! We are also gearing up for Shrine 

Hospital Benefit Days, and expect a great 

day for our members and for our Hospitals! 

Once that is over, we expect to see all our 

Shrine Brothers at the parade in Florence! 

Our meetings have been well attended and 

run, despite the absence of our Captain Bill 

Martin on one occasion—he has been to the 

Mayo Clinic for evaluation and treatment 

and is back home doing well. We wish him 

well and hope he heals well and has a great 

year as our leader! 

Once again we will field a golf team for 

the golf league and we fully expect to win 

first place this year! Good luck to all our 

golfers – even those who might be on a 

different team! It should be all for fun and 

fun for all! 

If you are interested in joining us at our 

meetings, we meet the first Monday of 

every month at Jerico’s Resturant at 6:30 

pm. Hopefully we will grow larger this year 

and increase our support for the Masonic 

Youth! If you are interested in the future of 

the Shrine this is a good unit to join! We 

have a lot of fun and sun, even when our 

tops are up!

I begin this month’s article looking back at 

our Pajama Jam. Definitely a good time was 

had by all and a lot of hard work went into 

making it a success. I want to thank all the 

Kops and Kuties that pitched in and helped. 

We were few in number but mighty in spirit! 

A special thanks to Randy and Tricia Jaccaud 

for the idea and the work they put into the 

event. 

By the time you read this the Kops will 

have completed the Granville Villa gig and I 

am confident the Kops were a huge hit with 

the residents. In addition Shrine Hospital 

Benefit Days will also be behind us. Again 

thank you to the Kops and Kuties who helped 

with these events. 

As we look ahead we kick off the parade 

season with the Florence parade, followed by 

the Council Bluffs and LaVista parades, as 

well as the Shrine Bowl parade in Lincoln. If 

there are any suggestions for parade skits or 

antics please let one of the line officers know. 

We did not have much of a response to the 

Veteran request letter, so your 2011 officers 

look forward to seeing the 30 plus active 

members at our regular business meetings 

and activities. Remember, according to the 

by-laws, two or more consecutive unexcused 

absences can result in suspension so PLEASE 

don’t let this happen to you. 

Finally, celebrating a May birthday is Past 

Chief Bob “Red Dog” Regnas. Celebrating 

May anniversaries are Past Chief Darwin 

and Christie Baker, Past Chief Kevin and 

Terri Rasmussen; Chief Tyler and Tracey 

Goodman; and Officers Ron and Julie

Legion of Honor

Brothers, we had another great 

month within the L.O.H. In 

April we had members post Colors for the 

SDA convention, the Tangier Ball, and of 

course the Tangier stated meeting. Thank 

you Brothers for taking time out of your busy 

schedules to do these things, and making 

our unit stand out. And from what I have 

heard from people at these events, we have 

succeeded in that task. We did have many 

Brothers come to post Colors at the Tangier 

Ball and many show up to support our Shrine 

Center by attending the dinner, the ball and 

breakfast the next morning. April 10th we 

once again had a great Biscuit and Gravy 

Breakfast. Thanks to the L.O.H. Family 

for coming out on a Sunday morning and 

supporting our unit’s fundraiser. April 29th 

and 30th we stood outside the Council Bluffs 

Walmart and helped raise money for our 

Children. Outstanding work and thanks to all 

who stood there and helped us for those two 

long but rewarding days. 

Parade Season is upon us. We have three 

parades in May, starting May 14th in Florence. 

Please consult your Hot Sands for locations 

and times. John Dickey is the Commander of 

units this year, so let’s get to those parades in 

force and help John have a successful Parade 

season. 

I would like to welcome Bill and Renee 

Herschlag to our unit. I am sure they will fit in 

great. Welcome. Any other Shriner that would 

be interested in joining our unit, please come 

to our meeting the first Tuesday of the month 

and see what we are about.

Florence Day Parade on May 14th, Council 

Bluffs Parade on May 21st and the LaVista 

Day Parade on May 28th. As always, Provost 

show time is 2 hours before the parades begin.

membership in the Provost Guard, is

Well here we are it is May, at last warmer 

weather and it is parade season. You will be 

hearing from our parade chairman Ed Ticknor 

about parade info and look for the schedule in 

the Hot Sands as well as our meetings. 

We just had our Hamburger night, and 

thank you to all of the members who came 

out to support your club. 

April 15th through the 17th your officers 

attended the CSSA mid-winter meeting in 

Kansas City. 

Sunday April 17 Bill German hosted our 

annual car inspection at his shop. We will 

have more about that next month. If you 

were not able to bring your car for inspection 

please copy your insurance and registration 

and send it to me at the Shrine or fax it to 

me at 431-7773. We cannot allow a car to 

parade without having insurance paperwork 

delivered to the club and the club will provide 

it to the Shrine. 

Shrine Hospital Benefits Days were held 

April 29th and 30th and I want to thank all 

members who participated. 

The Spring Ceremonial is May 14th and 

we need members at the Shrine Center at 

8:00 am in advance of the parade to provide 

rides for the new candidates in the parade in 

Florence and the afternoon ceremonial. 

May 22nd is the Shrine bowl player’s 

dinner. We requested Nate Kroupa and 

Jimmie Forsythe from Burke. Let’s all try to 

make this dinner and anything else that we 

can to make this a memorable experience for 

Illustrious Sir Past Potentate Frank Kroupa 

and Nate’s father Andy Kroupa, both Vintage 

Iron members. 

The Ladies will be having a baked potato 

feed for their May meeting. Ladies please 

bring at least six potatoes and the sides to go 

with. 

Remember to support all Clubs, Units, 

Lodges and Rites. 

Vintage Iron meets the 4th Tuesday of 

every month in the main room at 7:00 pm.

As I sit and write this article, it is hard 

to believe that it will be the last one you 

read before the 2011 Shrine Bowl Game is 

played. The year has flown by and we are 

very excited about the Game on June 4th 

in Memorial Stadium. With the game so 

close it is very important for all units and 

clubs to contact the players that you have 

sponsored for the player’s banquet. Please 

be sure to call the office and let Sandy know 

who will be there from the player’s family 

and your unit or club. This must be done 

so that we have an accurate count for the 

meal. Remember the Shrine Bowl player’s 

banquet is planned for May 22nd.The social 

will begin at 5:30 pm with dinner to start at 

6:30 pm. If you have any questions, contact 

Chad Fuller, Lamar Lind, or Diesel Dave. 

This is a great night for Tangier to recruit 

some future members. It also is the first 

time that many of these players and their 

families are introduced to what the Shrine 

is and everything that we do for kids. 

It is also time for you to think about 

the Bowler appeal that was sent out to all 

Nobles. Have you purchased your tickets 

for the game yet? Have you thought about 

sponsoring a flight? The 2011 Nebraska 

Shrine Bowl game needs your support. 

Whether you can sponsor a player or 

coach’s flight to the Shrine Hospital in St. 

Louis, or you plan to attend the Shrine Bowl 

Game, your support is always appreciated. 

We would love to see all of you at the Shrine 

Bowl Banquet on June 3rd, and the parade 

and game on June 4th. The Oasis will be at 

the hotel after the Saturday parade. Make a 

weekend of it and support the players and 

coaches. If you have any questions about the

April was full of fun and fellowship with the 

Shrine Directors Staff meetings in Tangier land. 

Thanks to all the Nobles and Ladies in making 

our guests feel welcome. Without the Directors 

Staff we would have no Ceremonials! We all 

remember the day we were brought into the 

Shrine, its all in fun and friendship. 

The Masonic One Day was a success and we 

look forward to our new Brethren becoming 

active in our Fraternity. The Scottish Rite One 

Day also provided an opportunity for members 

to interact and grow in their Masonic journey. 

Each of the appendant bodies of Masonry 

add a different dynamic and opportunity for 

more Light in Masonry. I would like to thank 

all the individuals that participated in these 

events as they make our Fraternities stronger in 

knowledge and membership. 

Our Spring Ceremonial and Second Section 

will be held Saturday May 14th. It would be great 

to have a BIG turnout for these new Nobles. The 

Ceremonial will be in honor of Illustrious Sir 

Gary Fields. Please take some time out of your 

busy schedules to come out and support Tangier, 

our new members, and Illustrious Sir Gary. 

Earlier in the year I asked that each Noble 

come to at least one Friendship dinner. You 

will have another chance Friday May 27th at 

the Shrine Center. Please bring a non-Masonic 

friend, and make reservations through the office.

Hero of the Month: 

Johnathan 


This hero quite literally has a halo. 

Johnathan is a familiar face at the 

Twin Cities Hospital as he has been a 

patient since he was five years old! At 

the age of 12, Johnathan has already 

undergone two previous spine surgeries 

and is preparing for a third within 

the next year. He is currently an inpatient 

with a projected length of stay 

of 6-12 weeks due to the halo traction 

which is helping to prepare him for 

his upcoming spinal fusion. 

This young man is awesome! If you 

ask him what his biggest concern is 

about being in the hospital his answer 

doesn’t have anything to do with 

his health. His focus and concern is 

that he keeps up his A/B average in 

school! Jonathan is a great student 

and enjoys reading and participating 

in media tech.

137th Imperial Session, scheduled for 

July 3-7, 2011, in the mile-high city of 

Denver. You do not want to miss it. 

Denver – an amazing city – has activities and 

attractions for every interest, including the Colorado 

State Capitol – which is exactly one mile above sea 

level – the U.S. Mint, the LoDo Historic District, 

museums and gardens. In nearby Golden, Colo., 

popular sites include the Red Rocks Amphitheater, 

the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave, and of course, 

Coors Brewery Tours. 

The Denver area has a very diverse dining scene, 

offering everything from typical American comfort 

food to an apparently endless array of authentic 

ethnic choices. For those who like to tour new places 

on foot, Denver has been ranked as having the 

fourth most walkable downtown area in the nation. 

If you get tired, a free shuttle bus can be found all 

along the 16th Street Mall. This mile-long pedestrian 

walk has more than 20 outdoor cafés, and is lined 

with 200 trees and 50,000 flowers. Interestingly, the 

gray and pink granite design on the pathway was 

designed to appear similar to that of a diamondback 

rattlesnake, a well-known symbol in the Denver 

area. Plentiful, unique shopping experiences are also 

readily available in the Victorian buildings of Larimer 

Square and on Colfax Avenue, sometimes referred to 

as “Denver’s Avenue of Riches.” 

Denver is also home to the city’s Performing Arts 

Complex, which encompasses four square blocks 

of the downtown area and includes a concert hall, 

opera house, multi-theater building and ballroom. 

The city also has several museums, ranging from 

a renowned art museum to the Denver Museum

El Jebel Shriners are already working hard to 

guarantee the success of the 137th Imperial Session 

and are looking forward to welcoming thousands of 

Shriners to their town. The week will be important, 

exciting, and full of the fun and camaraderie for 

which Shriners are famous. They would like to see 

as many Shriners as possible on hand to celebrate 

Imperial Sir Mike Severe Imperial Potentate. 

Families have plenty to look forward to at Session, 

and can expect to have a great time. Everyone will 

enjoy the fun and spirit of the many competitions. 

Shriners clown units, motor patrols, band units – 

just to name a few examples – will be vying for top 

honors, and entertaining spectators in the process. 

And, of course, there will be a parade on July 4. The 

Shriners parade is practically a signature event – 

looked forward to by both children and adults.

including the Imperial Representatives Evening 

and the Imperial Potentate’s Pageant. For more
