Nobles and Ladies,
“2011 Together We Can!” That is
exactly what happened! The Nobles
and Ladies of Tangier really came
together and made things happen!
We had a great Circus, a record
Corn Beef and Cabbage, big
turnouts at Parades, wonderful
CSSA, Great Spaghetti Feed and a very good fall
Ceremonial.
Our building looks much better thanks to everyone
who has made that happen.
With 2012 just around the corner, your Divan is
very much prepared and enthusiastically ready to
move Tangier forward.
The very most important thing we all have to do
is to increase membership. Membership has to be
our first priority. Again, as always, we at Tangier
can make that happen!
It has been a pleasure and honor for Lady Suz
and I to be here to help guide Tangier through 2011.
We want to thank all of you for what you all do for
Tangier.
I would especially like to thank our Divan for
their tremendous work and ideas this year! The
future of our Center is in good hands!

The Red
Cross View
On November 3, I attended a meeting of
coordinators for the various Red Cross Blood Drives
held in the Omaha area. Tangier was recognized as
having contributed 80 pints of whole blood during the
current fiscal year. It is nice to be recognized, but we
know that we have not been successful in reaching our
goal during the same period. We could and should have
been in the 100 pint category. Let’s hope that we can
improve substantially in the next year.
Next month I will bring you up to date on the new
members of the gallon club and any who have reached
a higher level. We have four donors who are in the ten
gallon area and some that are getting close to that level. I
will also confirm the dates of our 2012 drives next month.

The Tangier Shrine Transportation Fund, our
charitable entity encourages the Nobles and
their Ladies to “Pay It Forward For Our Kids” and
consider establishing a planned gift through their
will or other estate planning documents. Naming
the Tangier Shrine Transportation Fund in your
Will is an effective way to provide for the future
transportation of “Our Kids”. Contributions, stock
assignments or transfers, and gifts of life insurance
are deductible for income tax purposes to the
extent permitted by law. Bequests are deductible
for estate tax purposes. Please consult your tax

The deadline for this article preceded the
Arab Patrol election of officers for 2012.
Our new leaders will be announced in the
next issue. I can extend a big thank you to
the officers that served this year. They were;

Treasurer Loren Kastanek. Thanks also
goes to Charlie Binge for keeping everyone
informed via e-mail for important dates.
Instead of our usual second Monday
of the month meeting, we will be meeting
at Anthony’s for our Christmas party on
December 12th. Nobles and their Ladies will
enjoy an evening of food and fun.

Road Runners

trips to Minneapolis and one trip
to St. Louis in October, transporting thirteen
patients. Another nineteen patients travelled
by private conveyance.

Chanters

Clowns

The Chanters have been
practicing on Mondays and have begun
to add songs to our Christmas repertoire,
to help improve our performances for
our Christmas tour and because we enjoy
singing. The Chanters have completed the
schedule for the Tour which will begin on
December 6, then December 11 and end on
December 13. In those three days, the group
will sing Christmas songs for 16 nursing
homes/retirement communities and two
youth homes. We would like to thank Arrow
Stagelines for their support in our annual
charitable endeavor.
Following December, there are often
Masonic family installations of officers,
and if you want us to sing at such events
requests should be received early to verify
our availability, just contact any Chanter or
leave a message at the Shrine Center. To help
illustrate the diversity of our little group, let
me introduce you to one of our basses, Kevin
Throckmorton.
Kevin Throckmorton was born in Council
Bluffs, Iowa, on December 14, 1951, the 3rd
son of Richard and Jeanne Throckmorton.
His family moved to Carroll, Iowa, where
Kevin joined the Hugh dePayne DeMolay
Chapter in 1966. Kevin graduated from
Carroll High School in 1970. He married
and moved to O’Neill, Nebraska, where
he joined Garfield Lodge #95 in 1983 and
shortly thereafter the Shrine in 1985/86.
While in O’Neill, Kevin was an active
member of the Sand Hills Shrine Club. He
was also a member of the Scottish Rite for
many years. Kevin was also active with the
International Order of the Rainbow for Girls
(IORG), O’Neill Assembly #31, and served
as Rainbow Dad for several years, while his
daughter Robyn was active. Kevin currently
lives in Omaha, with his wife Missy, and
their two dogs. They have 8 children and 12
grandchildren. Kevin still manages a storage
facility. Kevin comes from a Masonic family,
with several generations involved. Just this
past March, Kevin’s granddaughter, BreAnn,
was initiated into Westside Assembly #22,
IORG.
We will always welcome new members.
Any man with a joy for singing and interested
in joining us should contact any Chanter or
just stop by on Mondays around 7:30 pm
at the Shrine Center. That’s my update for
December.

Here we go for another busy November.
Since our meeting will not be until the 14th,
we will need to report on our elections next
month. Congrats to the new officers!
All of us are still busy selling our calendars,
as always we have done a great job with this.
Dwight is gearing up for Christmas tree
sales, so please stop by the lot and pick out
a nice one for your home. The Corvettes and
Motor B will be happy to help you.
When you read this, the fall Ceremonial
will be completed. I’m sure it is shaping up
be another success and a fun time for the new
Shriners.
We will also have completed our night
with Hamburger Night, it will be yummy.
Yes, we have several good cooks and we love
doing it.
Our Christmas party will be in January, so
I’ll report more on that next month.
We will all have had a nice Thanksgiving,
and we also want to wish all of you and your
families a Merry Christmas and a very Happy
New Year.

of the Nile

WE DID IT! A big thank you to all the
Past Queens and Princesses that made the
Anniversary Tea a reality! Thank you to all
who came and helped Sat-ra celebrate our 75th
Anniversary! I hope you took the opportunity
to meet and talk with Supreme Queen Laura
Richardson. She spent a fun-filled 2 days
with us, celebrating and helping us welcome
4 new Nile Princesses! There is no doubt in
my mind that she enjoyed her stay and now
knows there is no place like Nebraska!
I know December is such a fun, busy
month with preparations for the holidays and
many parties to attend; I’ll keep my notes
short and sweet! A reminder that there is no
Stated Session in January but that there is
a Ceremonial scheduled for January 28th.
Watch for a newsletter with more details. Our
February Stated Session will be the 2nd with
a brunch at 11:00 am and Session beginning
at Noon. We will also have our Memorial
Service at the February Session. Our final
fundraiser will be the “Age of Elegance” style
show on February 11th. Look for details and
tickets in the next newsletter.
I hope 2011 was as wonderful for all of
you as it has been for me. Best wishes for a
prosperous and joyous New Year!
Hi Clowns! I would like to thank everyone
at Tangier for coming out and supporting the
Clowns during our Chili Feed on November
5th. We had an excellent turnout, and
everyone said how great of a time it was.
Everybody loved the new chili recipes, and
there were not many leftovers at the end of
the night. We were all glad to see a return to
doing the skit performances also. The kids all
loved the shows, and I even caught some of
the adults cracking a smile! In the end, we
were able to raise money to help us prepare
for the upcoming year. Thank you all again.
The Tangier Shrine Clowns will continue to
work hard to make our fund raisers some of
the most memorable for our fellow Shriners,
and I know I will see you all in February for
our Super Bowl Party.
Congratulations goes out to our elected
officers for 2012. Director Scott “Strypes”
Robertson, Assistant Director Bryan
“Squiggles” Deming, and Chris “Bitz”
Edwards who was recently elected to be
Secretary of the Clowns. Jim “Hambone”
Sklenar has accepted appointment as our
Treasurer once again. All of these guys have
worked really hard this year, and I know
that we Clowns are in good hands with such
caring Clowns serving as our officers. As for
myself, I am pleased to announce that I get to
return to the ranks of the rest of the grunts!
The Tangier Shrine Clowns will be hosting
the 2011 Kids Christmas party on December
10th. I could use all the help I can get to put
this event on, and make it a very memorable
day for the kids. If you are interested in
helping, please let me know.
2011 was a great year for the Tangier
Shrine Clowns and for myself personally.
With our continued success at our fundraisers
and Circus, our continued support of our
community by attending local events, and
our ongoing winning streak at competition,
the Clowns are definitely a strong unit to be
part of. I want to thank each and every Clown
that came out this year to help us become the
unit we are today. For those of you who were
not able to come join in the fun, it is never
too late to get active, and join in the fun. The
more Clowns that we have helping, the more
things we can get done, and the stronger we
will become.
The Clowns Christmas party is December
2nd. I hope to see you all there! And as
always, I appreciate everything you guys do
for the Clowns!

Director’s Staff

It looks like the holiday season is yet
again upon us. I hope everyone had a great
Thanksgiving. I know we sure did. But
Thanksgiving wasn’t the only thing that we
celebrated last month. We also celebrated
the arrival of some new Nobles. That’s
right. We had our fall ceremonial last month
as well. And what a ceremonial it was. We
made second section a huge success as per
usual and then afterwards went to the hotel
to confer the degree of El Coyote on some
very deserving
Nobles. The fall ceremonial is always
a very special event but this one was
unique. The honorees were all the living
past Potentates. Talk about pressure. Also
making it special was the number of new
Nobles that were already members of the
Directors Staff. Congratulations. You are
now officially members of the Directors
Staff.
Our Christmas party is the next big event
for the D-Staff. It takes place December
17th in the basement of the Shrine. Come
one, come all this is the social event of the
year. That’s right. It falls on the same day as
the lounge party again this year. We enjoy a
great meal and fellowship at the Christmas
party and upstairs for the lounge party and
Karaoke already in progress.
Given the fact that our first turn to cook
for hamburger night falls on November
30th, I would like to either thank the
members of the Directors Staff for the great
job they did or let them know that we have
hamburger night to cook for and I know we
will do a great job.
I am really excited about what we are
doing at the present and the direction we
seem to be heading. We have had a lot of
new members doing a lot of great things,
our older members are doing what they
always do and our women contingent, the
Staffettes, are more active than I have ever
seen them. It is good to be Directors Staff
right now. If you are not yet a member and
want to join this very powerful movement,
come to a meeting and take that step you
will never regret. We meet in the basement
of the Shrine at 7:00 pm on the fourth
Monday of every month.
Golden Girls

December, the last month of the year, is
here. Shortly the year 2011 will be history.
Christmas is the main event of the month.
A very, very busy time for grown-ups and
dearly loved by very young children. Santa
Claus leaves his home at the North Pole and
journeys, with his sleigh filled with toys, to
the lower 48. The little ones can hardly wait
to see what he left for them.
Golden Girls will have their annual
Christmas luncheon on Tuesday, December
13 at noon in the lower level (Oasis room)
of the Shrine Center. The officers will be
the hostesses. As has been the tradition
for several years, the Divan Ladies will
be our guests. In lieu of a gift exchange,
money will be collected (donations) for
the Shriners Hospital for Children - Twin
Cities. Entertainment will be the reading of
Christmas stories and poems by our members.
Our birthday celebrants this month are
Sally Larsen, Audrey Stalder, Ione Stewart,
and yours truly. Happy Birthday Ladies.
At our November meeting Recorder
Charles E. Sohm showed us the latest
Shrine Video - A tale of two patients. At the
conclusion, Arlene Andersen presented him
a $100 check to the building fund from our
group.
A little holiday traditions trivia before
closing. Traditional Christmas markets, also
known as Christkindlmarkts, originated in
Germany and Austria in the 14th century.
Now popular throughout Europe, the largest
concentration of these can still be found
throughout Germany during the four weeks
of Advent. Dresden, Germany hosts the oldest
Christmas market. Visiting these markets is a
fun time.

party! Don Hinkle has worked really hard on
plans for this and it should be a great party.
Tangier’s stated Election meeting is Dec
9th at 7:30 pm. We need Greeters at both
doors by 6:15 p.m.
We had a good turnout for our November
meeting and we elected Fred Yates Director
for 2012. Assistant Director will be Chuck
Kubich, and our two dedicated Greeters, Dr.
Ken Bunnell and Jim Wilmot will remain
as Secretary and Treasurer. Lets give these
Nobles our full support for 2012.
Honorary Greeter Jerry Austin died in Calif
on Oct 3. We extend our deepest sympathy to
his family.

Hospital Float

The Hospital Float Unit
wishes a Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year to all of Tangier Shrine.
President Noble Tim Mendoza wants to thank
all of the unit members for their loyal support
and participation in all unit activities and
Tangier events this year. He envisions 2010
to be an even better year for the Hospital
Float Unit.
Attention Hospital Float members: put
December 16, 2011 on your calendars for the
unit Christmas Party to be held at the Shrine
Center. We will gather at 6:00 pm and dinner
will be served at 6:30.

Tangier
Shrine activities, and hands on experience
with the Shriner’s Hospitals.

Howdy Cuzins! How ya’ll
doin? I want to give a great big hillbilly
welcome to the 38 new Cuzins that joined
this fall! I want to especially thank Ralph and
Judy Joos for again allowing us to meet at
their hide out. Big thanks also goes out to the
degree teams, the registration team, food and
drink teams, the country store and everyone
else that jumped in to help that night. Lastly,
I want to say a huge thanks to my lady Sweet
Cheeks. I couldn’t do it without you. I know it
was a little cold and damp, but spirits seemed
to run pretty high. We also had some “learning
opportunities” that we will work on as we
strive to do a better job each time. What did
you think of that chili dump? Did ya’ll like
that? Please let us know if you liked it or not.
Sue Ellenberger advised me that her husband
Don “Stinky” Ellenberger was very “vocal” in
his support of the chili dump...
We are havin a Hillbilly Christmas Party!
It will be at the Shrine Center on Wednesday,
December 28th. The plan is to have socializing
at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30. Clan #98 will
supply the meat. We are asking you Cuzins
to help with the sides and deserts, etc.. Here’s
how it’s work. If your name starts with A – H,
bring a horse-do-vor. If your name starts with I
– M bring a side dish. If your name starts with
N – Z, please bring a desert. We are also doin
a simple hillbilly gift exchange. Just wrap and
bring a gift a hillbilly guy or gal would like
and you are in! We will have a guy pile and
a gal pile. The price limit is $10 on the gift
or it can be hand made too if you aint got no
money. But remember …you gotta bring one
to git one! Please RSVP if you are coming.
That will help us ta plan on how much meat
we need to pick up from the road side…….
As the year comes to a close I wanna say
one last thing. Thank you to the Illustrious Cuz
Bob and his Lady Suz for bein so supportive

Keystone Kops

My fellow Nobles and Ladies, we have
reached the end of another event-filled year
and the Kops and Kuties were definitely in
the forefront for activities. The Kuties outdid
themselves at the Circus leading the way in
vendor sales and we received high praise for
our skit and overall participation. We increased
our participation in parades and at CSSA. We
sponsored a couple of Karaoke nights; we
participated in three gigs, Easter at Grandview
Manor, the JDRF and the 108th St. Hy-Vee
Halloween celebration. We participated in
and supported the Shrine Spaghetti Dinner
and Shrine Hospital Benefit Days. We had a
great PJ Party and we just concluded another
successful Steak Dinner and Auction. I know
I speak for the Chief and for the Lt, when I
say thank you to all of the Kops and Kuties
who helped make this a great year for our unit.
Let’s keep the momentum going into 2012!
Speaking of the Steak Dinner, I want to
extend a special thank you to our brother
Nobles, their Ladies and families who came
out and supported our event. Without your
support, we would struggle as a viable unit
and, most of all, we could not help out the
Shrine Hospitals as we have in the past.
Another big thank you also goes out to
the Kops who have stepped forward and
volunteered to run for election. Remember
December 10th is the date for our monthly
meeting when we will elect our 2012 line. We
need as many of our active members to attend
and offer their support to the Kops who will be
leading us next year.
December 10th is also our annual Kop
Christmas party. We will be meeting in the
lower level of the Shrine Center at 6:00 pm
for cocktails followed by a short meeting at
6:30. Then we will have a catered meal at
7:00 pm. After our meal, we will have the
gift exchange. As in the past, we will not be
dressing in our usual meeting attire, so dress
in your “festive best “and make it fun, let’s see
those Santa hats and Christmas sweaters.

describes November. LOH
members and our outstanding
Ladies really turned to until mission
accomplished. BRAVO ZULU to the Ladies
Aux. and galley crew lead by Brother Beeler
who cranked out a record number of B & G
platters. It just keeps getting better.
BRAVO ZULU to the Flag detail who
once again braved the weather to honor our
Veterans by displaying the Veteran’s Flags in
front of the Temple for all to see and reflect
on their sacrifice to keep us free.
BRAVO ZULU to our Color Guard for
their outstanding presentation of the Colors
at the Fall Ceremonial. I thing the reason our
Color Guard is so good is that we care, and
that’s all we need to say about that.
BRAVO ZULU to Brother Dale Hiers and
his beautiful Lady Elizabeth who celebrated
their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Please
congratulate them the next time you meet
they.
PLAN FOR THE MAN: Our next Unit
meeting will be December 6th, 2011, and
will start at 1830. 2012 Officer elections will
be held with our annual dinner and social
following our meeting. If you haven’t been
to a meeting in a while please try to make this
one. Fellowship, Food and maybe an adult
beverage are best when shared with friends
and family.
Membership Dues, well, they’re due.
$30, same as last year. I guarantee there will
somebody there to take your money so lets
get em in so we have an accurate accounting
and next year’s budget can be set.
Skipper put the word out and wants
all hands to think CIRCUS. Mark your
calendars, Feb. 23, 24, 25 & 26. Maybe the
last one at the Civic Center so be part of
history and lets all turn out and support our
Circus. I have tickets if you need them.
Reminder Brothers, the 2012 CSSA
Convention is in Cedar Rapids, IA starting
on August 8th. I’ve been there and it is
a wonderful City. A great little weekend
getaway for you and your Lady. More
information to follow in the months ahead.
I.A.L.O.H. will be March 21-25, in
Alexandria, VA. Lady Debbie and I will be
there and I was assured that scheduled liberty
times were incorporated into the convention’s
agenda to accommodate visiting our National
Treasures.

I would like to say a big thank you for those
of you that attended the Calendar Kickoff in
October and to all of you that are out selling
the 2012 Calendar. Hopefully, calendar sales
are going well. One great selling point, as
you all know is the fact that they support
our game which then helps our hospitals.
With the holidays just around the corner
a Nebraska Shrine Bowl Calendar would
makes a great Christmas present. If you did
not get calendars to sell and are interested
please contact Arnie Nelson or Bill Harper.
Remember January 15th is the last day we
have to sell. So please try to get out and sell
all of the calendars that we have.
The coaches for the games have been
chosen. These coaches will meet for the first
time with Shrine Bowl staff to start player
selections the first week of December. I am
excited about our staff. Many of their teams
went deep into the state playoffs. I am sure
they will do a great job selecting young men
that will represent our state and cause very
well.

Wow, the holiday season is
here already, how time flies. The Provost
Unit would like to wish everyone a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year. The
Provost Christmas Pot Luck will be

Luck Meeting.
The Unit has held its election of Officers
for the 2012 year. Congrats to Ron Barber-

Racers

Hamburger Night is off to a good start
and ice cream sales from the Racers, while
not spectacular, are reasonable for this time
of year. The main shortcoming regarding ice
cream sales is the lack of support in staffing
the machine by Racer members. Setting up
and holding sales can be done by one or two
Racers, but it would be most desirable to
have additional help arrive about 15 minutes
ahead of the 7:00 pm closing time to help
with the clean up.
In October, the Black Camel claimed
Roy Armitage, a retired Racer. Roy always
brought forth friendly smiles from onlookers
who admired his waxed handlebar mustache.
The smiles often turned into even wider grins
when Roy had his pet bird perched on his
shoulder.
Our Christmas Party will either be late or
early depending on one’s viewpoint since it
will be held in January at Anthony’s. These
dinners have always been gala affairs and we
are looking forward to their continuance.
Even with all of the
distractions in our world
such as long time dictators,
European leaders, and football coaches
being deposed; and European debt and Kim
Kardashian’s 72 day marriage going into
the toilet, the Tangier Band continues its
primary mission of providing entertainment
and the enjoyment of playing music with
other dedicated musicians. Every month we
entertain fellow Shriners before the monthly
business meetings, perform at the Circus,
march in parades, and play at retirement
Centers. To conclude our activities for 2011
we will have our annual Christmas Dinner
and election of officers at the Shrine Center
on Thursday December 1st.
As we look forward to 2012, we are
always eager to have new members join
the best Shrine Band in the Central States
Region. Percussion, woodwind, and brass
players who may have not played for years
are welcome to contact Dave Krecek 402-

more information. And, if you act now, you
will receive absolutely free, your very own

Wow December and winter and the end my
year! I first want to say thank you to all of our
membership for all of the work they did this
past year. Secondly I wish to thank my fellow

Saturday November 12th was fall
ceremonial and thank you for all who attended
the Hot Sands and the hospitality room at the
Doubletree and thank you Glenn Smith for
your work on the hospitality room.
Friday December 2nd was our Christmas
party and we will write about it next month.

Hospital Items Donated to Twin Cities
Arbor Shrine Club and the Provost Guard
have each decided to provide one of
the items requested by our Shriners
Hospital for Children - Twin Cities.
The Hospital Auxiliary put out a list of
items the Hospital staff needs that did not
make it into the budget. One of those items
was a special chair used in post-op patient
recovery. These are expensive units that
articulate and support the patient’s
limbs at various angles. Arbor Shrine
and the Provosts are each sending checks to
the Auxiliary office to purchase both needed chairs. The wish list is being
revised and we should have it in the office soon. Should any member or other
clubs and units wish to donate, please check with Sandy for a copy of the list.

For the last couple of years,
Shriners International has been
busy developing new tools to
help increase awareness of
the fraternity. One of those
ongoing efforts is the website
beashrinernow.com, which
was created specifically as a
way for interested potential
members to learn about the
fraternity, easily and quickly.
“beashrinernow.com has been
an extremely helpful resource
in recruiting new members,”
said Randy Rudge, membership
development director of Shriners
International.
“In today’s world everything
is about convenience, and the
website allows prospective
members to sign-up and learn
about the great benefits of being
a Shriner in a matter of minutes.”
To help bring traffic to the
website, Shriners International
Headquarters has put together
a marketing campaign. You
can find online banner ads for
beashrinernow.com, as well as
print ads and inserts that were
created for temples to hand out
to prospective members.
The website is a terrific
educational resource because
it helps explain the relationship
between the Masonic Order
and Shriners International, and
also features a video about the
fraternity’s history. Site visitors
can learn about the fraternity’s
connection with Shriners Hospitals
for Children ® and take a virtual tour
of one of the hospitals.
beashrinernow.com also helps
answer any questions about the
necessary steps to becoming a
Master Mason and Shriner. If,
after reviewing the process, an
individual would like to pursue
membership, all he has to do is
select “The Next Step” tab , fill
out a short questionnaire, and he
will be paired with a virtual mentor.
One of the great features
of beashrinernow.com is
the interaction membership
candidates have with their virtual
mentors. Virtual mentors are
Shriners who are active in their
temple and Masonic Lodges
and have volunteered to guide
interested applicants through the
membership process.
Candidates are paired with
virtual mentors who best suit
their professional and personal
interests. The mentor becomes a
trusted friend and advisor through
exchanges of knowledge about
Freemasonry and becoming a
Shriner. The process is intended
to re-create the Masonic teaching
of developing close, trusting
relationships with prospective
Masons through personal
communication.

com is helping the fraternity
more effectively reach a younger
demographic, given that the
most recurring age for these
new members has been 32. This
number is especially interesting
to Shriners, since one of the
fraternity’s co-founders, Dr.
Walter Fleming, was the same
age when he developed the
concept of the fraternity.

Shriners International Experiences
Worldwide Interest and Expansion
December 2011
For many years, Shriners
International consisted of
191 temples in four countries:
the United States, Canada,
Mexico and Europe. Thanks
to new worldwide interest
in the organization, that
number is increasing. As a
result of the great work by
the international development
committee, the fraternity has
been expanding overseas at
a rapid pace.
“I’m very excited about the
international interest we’ve had
this past year and I look forward
to seeing membership continue
to thrive,” said Past Imperial
Potentate Nick Thomas, chairman
of the committee.
In the last two years, there have
been three new temples added.
At the 2010 Imperial Session, two
temples – one each in Puerto Rico
and The Philippines – received
their charters. This past July
in Denver, at the 2011 Imperial
Session, Emirat Shriners of
Heidelberg, Germany became the
194th temple.
In addition, legislation was passed
allowing dispensation – one of
the first steps toward forming a
new temple – for Agila Shriners of
Mindanao, The Philippines.
In addition to the new temples,
Shrine Clubs have formed in
Puerto Rico, The Philippines,
Brazil, Bolivia, Germany, Italy and
Australia. There is also growing
interest in forming Shrine Clubs
in several other countries. In
order for these clubs to one day
be chartered as temples, they
must show a gain in membership
and create nobles of the Master
Masons who signed the petition
required to obtain dispensation
status, which lasts a year.
This past year, the number of
established international Shrine
Clubs rose from 33 to 53. On
an individual level, the number
of creations internationally has
increased from 118 to 1,193
since 2007.
“The relationships developed
overseas are an integral part
of the fraternity’s future and
success,” said Imperial Potentate
Mike Severe. “I greatly appreciate
everything Nick Thomas and the
rest of the committee have done
to spread the word about our
wonderful fraternity.”
A New Flag is Created
After the fraternity’s official name
change to Shriners International,
a new flag was designed. In
response to the global growth,
changes to protocol regarding
the display of flags and playing
of national anthems at Shriners
events were made. These changes
were communicated to all temples
in a revised protocol pamphlet
that can be found on the Shriners
Village website.
Communicating at
an International Level
To better serve our current
international members and to
aid recruitment efforts, we are
continuing to develop appropriate
communications items. Some
printed materials are now
available in English, Spanish and
French; beashrinernow.com can
be viewed in English, Spanish,
French, German and Portuguese,
and we are working toward
having Shriners Village available
in multiple languages.
In addition, one of the biggest
challenges – and accomplishments
– of the international development
committee this past year was
the creation of a handbook for
temples sponsoring international
Shrine Clubs. The handbook
includes sections about the vision
and mission, approval processes,
responsibilities, ritual and protocol.
Clearly, our fraternity is meeting
a need around the world; it is
wonderful to be a part of the
enthusiasm and commitment of
our international Brothers.

The annual elections of Tangier Shriners will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 2823 S. 84 th Street, Omaha Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. No later than
9:00 p.m. the annual election will start. Tangier Temple will elect seven Divan members, a Trustee for a four year term, Representatives to the Imperial
Council and Central States Shrine Association, and any openings which may occur in the interim.
Members must have their 2011 Dues Card for admission to this meeting

Article 25
325.4 When Elected. Each Temple must elect its Officers and Representatives at its annual meeting in January unless it’s bylaws
allow the election to occur at the temple’s stated meeting in December.
325.5 Ballot. Election of officers shall be by separate written ballot and by a majority vote of those present and voting. A blanket
ballot is prohibited.
325.6 Time of Election. Nominations must commence no later than 9:00 p.m. and when that hour arrives all other business must
cease and none may be transacted until the election is concluded.
325.7 Other Officers. The Temple may elect such other officers as its Bylaws provide.
325.8 Nominations. Candidates for office and Representatives must be placed in nomination from the floor.
325.10 Representatives.
(a) Where a Temple elects more than one Representative, all candidates must be balloted for on one written ballot.
(b) Each member voting must vote only for the total number of Representatives to be elected, otherwise his ballot cannot be
counted as a vote.
(c) A majority of those present and voting is necessary to elect each Representative.
(d) Only those candidates who receive a majority vote shall be declared elected.
(e) Successive written ballots must then be taken in the same manner on other candidates until all Representatives are elected.
(f) If more candidates receive a majority vote than the number of Representatives to be elected, then those receiving the
greatest number of votes shall be declared elected.
(g) Blank ballots or ballots containing any markings other than the name of a candidate nominated from the floor are not
votes and are not to be considered for any purpose.
325.11 Election Regulations.
(a) A candidate for an elected office in a Shrine temple may print, publish and circulate during the year he is seeking
the elected office, a resume consisting of his educational background, his vocational history, and his Masonic and Shrine
record. Except as provided in the prior sentence, the printing, publication, circulating or distribution of resolutions, letters,
telegrams, tickets, email or other devices, by a unit, club, Noble, or group of Nobles, suggesting, recommending, opposing, or
containing the names of proposed candidates for office in the temple is prohibited.
(b) The expenditure of money for gifts, favors, or entertainment on behalf of a candidate for elected office is prohibited.
(c) For any violation of (a) or (b), the Imperial Potentate may suspend any offending Noble, and he may declare the election
of the officers void and order a new election.
(d) At least one week prior to the annual meeting or any election, the temple Recorder shall mail to each member a notice
thereof containing this section.
