while the Lake Trail Drive-In and<br />
the Star Theatre, Russell Springs, Ky., are<br />
being transferred from Cincinnati to the Indianapolis<br />
territory . . . The Joan Theatre,<br />
Sardinia, has been leased by J. B. Lee of<br />
that city. The theatre had been closed since<br />
the death of William Hitchcock's stepfather<br />
and injuries to his mother in an automobile<br />

Chakeres Hikes Capacity<br />
Of Its Melody Cruise-In<br />
SPRINGFIELD — Improvements<br />
totaling<br />
$10,000 are being made at the Melody Cruise-<br />
In on U. S. 40 just east of here, it was announced<br />
by Michael H. Chakeres, of Chakeres<br />
Theatres. The drive-in will open for<br />
the season March 30 with capacity increased<br />
from 838 to 1,100 motor vehicles. The driveways<br />
to the car spaces will be paved when<br />
weather permits. The rows are being numbered<br />
from 1 to 18 and a sidewalk is being<br />
constructed through the ramps from the concession<br />
stand.<br />
On Easter Sunday, a group of Clark County<br />
churches again will hold sunrise services at<br />
6:30 a.m. at the Melody with Chakeres Theatres<br />
furnishing free coffee and doughnuts.<br />
Richard O. Hall sr., will serve as manager<br />
of the Melody for the second consecutive<br />
year. Roger Mutter, present manager of<br />
the Fairbanks in Springfield, will become assistant<br />
manager. His post at the Fairbanks<br />
will be taken by Christ C. Chakeres, who has<br />
been a relief manager in the circuit many<br />
years. Chakeres recently was married.<br />
Airer Now Open Weekends<br />
HORSE CAVE, KY.—The Twin City Drivein<br />
Theatre held its grand opening recently,<br />
and is operating each weekend.<br />
COLUMBUS<br />
garden of Eden," the film which cost a<br />
Massachusetts exhibitor a $500 fine plus<br />
a $200 fine for his projectionist, can be shown<br />
in Columbus without risking arrest. So said<br />
Police Sgt. Stephen Tigyer of the vice squad<br />
after viewing the film at a special showing at<br />
the Russell, South Side neighborhood house.<br />
Tigyer said he found nothing "lewd or<br />
obscene" about it. Jerome C. Knight, manager<br />
of the Russell, said he may book the<br />
feature later. The Russell has been running<br />
"Street Corner" to segregated audiences.<br />
Johnny Jones, Columbus Dispatch columnist,<br />
was seriously injured when his car<br />
rammed into a Greyhound bus north of<br />
Columbus. Jones sustained a dislocated hip,<br />
fractured leg and head injuries. He is recovering<br />
in University Hospital. Jones was<br />
manager of the South Side Thurmania in the<br />
1920s and later managed the downtown Majestic<br />
and Southern.<br />

new president of the Salesmen's Club. He<br />
succeeds Jim Levitt. Serving with Wayne<br />

Sam Lichter, 20th-Fox, treasurer;<br />

Theatre Being Remodeled<br />
As an Office Building<br />
XENIA, OHIO—Quarters of the recently<br />
closed Ohio have been purchased by the<br />
Home Federal Savings and Loan Ass'n. The<br />
theatre is being remodeled for use as an office<br />
building. This leaves the Xenia as the<br />
only year-round show operating here. The<br />
Xenia is operated by Chakeres Theatres of<br />
