European Water Asscoiation
(EWA)
About: The European Water Association is a major trans-European association
representing professional individuals employed in the water sector, promotes the
sustainable and improved management of the total water cycle in the environment.
The EWA website states that:
“EWA informs its members on the development of EU legislation and
standardisation and seeks to influence the drafting when appropriate. It
has close contacts with the European Commission (DG Environment), the
European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European
Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Parliament.”
EWA state that the organizational structure is focused on working to affect policy:
“EWA with its ETSC (European Technical and Scientific Committee) and
the EPC (European Policy Committee) has a strong technical and EUpolicy-oriented
structure that ensures that the Association is able to
deliver high quality, timely output on a wide range of environmental
issues.”
EWA are heavily involved in numerous EU directives, including The Water Framework
Directive. 34
European Commission Funding
The European Commission described the work programme that received funding as
follows:
“Through a combination of focused workshops and conferences organised
across Europe supported by effective methods of information transfer,
EWA will contribute to the development of EU environmental policy and
legislation and equally importantly, by similar exchanges of working
practices, to its implementation.”
