The Hurricane Evacuation <strong>Plan</strong> will set forth hurricane clearance<br />

times which will either be maintained or reduced.<br />

The risk of exposure of human life and public and private property to<br />

natural disasters shall be reduced through preparedness planning and<br />

implementation of hazard mitigation measures.<br />

The City shall coordinate plans for evacuation of coastal area<br />

populations with appropriate local or regional hurricane evacuation<br />

plans.<br />

Ensures intergovernmental coordination of hurricane planning<br />

The City shall adopt and implement land development regulations<br />

which recognize the limitations of development on a barrier island,<br />

including its location in the 100-year flood plain, its vulnerability to<br />

tropical storms, and its topography and soil conditions.<br />

Ensures that the land development regulations recognize the need to<br />

include regulations appropriate to hazard mitigation.<br />

The City shall adopt and implement land development regulations that<br />

contain specific and detailed provisions required to implement this<br />

comprehensive plan, as amended, which, at a minimum shall:<br />

- Regulate the subdivision of land:<br />

- Protect the limited amount of marine wetlands remaining in the<br />

community and those lands designated as Preservation on the<br />

Future Land Use Map;<br />

- Regulate signs<br />

- Ensure that all future development is consistent with<br />

Federal Emergency Management Agency regulation<br />

- Ensure that all future development is consistent with any<br />

coastal construction control regulations as may be adopted<br />

and/or amended by the State of Florida, Pinellas County, or<br />

the City of St. Pete Beach<br />

- Ensure the compatibility of adjacent land uses by requiring<br />

adequate and appropriate buffering between potentially<br />

incompatible uses<br />

- Ensure that development permits are issued only when it has<br />

been documented that such development is consistent with<br />

the level of service standards for the affected public facilities<br />

adopted by this comprehensive plan<br />
