Tenth Annual Taste Fair Set for November 8 By Barbara Camp The Tenth Annual Catholic High School Alumni Taste Fair will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009, in the CHS Gymnasium. Restaurants, caterers and distributors in and around the Baton Rouge area have been invited to come and showcase samples of their finest food. Last year, CHS welcomed 700 guests to the Taste Fair. Drawings for door prizes consisting of cash and gift baskets will take place during the event. Winners must be present at the time of the drawing. Tickets are $35 per person and will go on sale beginning Monday, October 5. Tickets may also be purchased online at that time. Proceeds from the event will benefit alumni activities on campus as well as help fund the Alumni Association Endowed Ring Donations Scholarship. The chairman of this year’s event is Randy Guillaume ’97. Members of the Alumni Board of Directors will be assisting with the event along with Dr. James Hannie, Glen Randow, director of alumni relations and Barbara Camp, alumni events coordinator. By Joni Owens The CHS Office of Advancement is gearing up for a major push in alumni giving for the 2009-10 fiscal year. In previous years, the annual fund appeal to alumni and friends has been made in or around April, leaving only three months to collect gifts before June 30. For that reason, the 2009-10 appeal will be moved to the fall of 2009. “By backing up the date, we are hoping that those donors who prefer to make their donations at the end of the calendar year for tax purposes are more likely to remember CHS with a gift. In addition, the longer time frame of the campaign allows for additional follow-up, which strengthens the possibility of reaching our alumni participation goal,” commented Hal Dupuy ’73, director of advancement. Over the past three years, CHS alumni giving has not exceeded 10 percent. It is the goal of the Advancement Team to reach 20 percent of alumni Advancing the Mission Advancement Team Gearing up for 2009-10 Annual Appeal Alumni Participation Goal Set at 20 Percent giving this year through the earlier appeal and follow-up process. “All CHS alumni and friends will be asked to partner in the mission of the school by making a donation within this fiscal year. No gift is too small and all contributions are Alumni & Friends Annual Fund Appeal Fall 2009 greatly appreciated. The most important thing is to participate. CHS Director of Advancement Hal Dupuy ’73 stated “I feel that these new levels are a better way to say thank you to those parents, alumni and friends who share their financial blessings with Catholic High.” Gifts of $1 to $999 provide tangible evidence of the donor’s belief in the CHS mission and of their desire to further it. Gifts of $1,000 to $9,999 exhibit a partnership with the school and provide resources essential to the day-to-day continuation of our school’s mission. Gifts of $10,000 to $49,999 help promote the initiation of programs and services and display a high level of trust in the effectiveness of our school’s mission. Gifts of $50,000 and above serve to create a permanent legacy assuring that the tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and the mission of our school will perpetually reflect the charism by which both were founded.
