Accomplishment
As part of National Nurses Week, Saint Clare’s launched its first
Spend a Day with a Nurse program. This event involved having
non-clinical members of the Saint Clare’s staff work with a nurse
to receive an inside view of the daily routine and experiences of a
staff nurse.
Cultural Competence Day is a special event for Saint Clare’s in
which nurses from different countries proudly shared their food,
native outfits, customs and dances. At the Denville Campus, the
Philippine Nurses Association presented a traditional folk dance
‘Pandanggo sa Ilaw,’ a dance of lights that simulates fireflies at
night.
RN. The Sanctuary provides nurses a place to rejuvenate, nourish
the spirit and find a place of quiet and tranquility away from the
challenges of the unit.
National Publications/Poster Presentations
Sue Weaver, MSN, RN, CRNI, NEA-BC, Shift Administrator,
had an article Your Final Assessment: Determination of Death
published in the February 2011 issue of Nursing 2011 and had a
poster presentation on Pronouncement of Death at the 20th
Annual Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Convention in
September 2011 in Boston, Mass.
Karen Phillips, EdD, RN, ICCE, had an article First-Time
Breastfeeding Mothers: Perceptions and Lived Experiences with
Breastfeeding published in the September 2011 issue of the
International Journal of Childbirth Education.
Nurse Executive Award
Saint Clare’s Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer
Suellyn Ellerbe, MN, RN, NEA-BC, received the Organization
of Nurse Executives of New Jersey (ONENJ) Nurse Executive
Award on December 9th at the Forsgate Country Club in Monroe,
N.J. The award is presented to the most senior nurse executive
in acute care, continuing care or academia who demonstrates
exceptional leadership, guidance and service to their institution
and to the profession of nursing.

2011 Nurses’ Week activities also included the annual Blessing of
the Hands, Nurturing the Nurse, and the establishment of a new
Sanctuary Room at the Dover campus through the efforts of the
Complementary Medicine Department, and Barbara D’Alessio,
