Nurse
Residency
Program
2011
Saint Clare’s offers a Nurse Residency Program for new registered nurses who have
a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). This 16-week program is an unpaid
learning experience, and was developed to transition new graduate nurses into the
workforce successfully. The purpose of the residency is to support the development
of competent professionals who will provide patient care leadership at the bedside,
and to ensure an adequate supply of talented nurses for the future of Saint Clare’s.
This year, there have been two Nurse Residency Programs with a total of 41
participants, of which 39 nurse residents have joined Saint Clare’s nursing staff in
full-time, part-time or per diem positions.
Nurse Recruitment and Retention
Saint Clare’s is very proud that the RN Voluntary Turnover rate is 8.98% for 2011,
which is lower than the national rate of 10%. In addition, the RN Turnover rate for the
new entry-level nurse is just 3.39% after the first year, which is significantly lower
than the national rate of 20%. Allyson Bakewell, BSN, MBA, RN, Nurse Recruiter,
attributes this low RN turnover rate for the entry-level RN to Saint Clare’s Nurse
Residency Program.
