Dear Ms. Cotton:
The Stormwater Committee embarked on its first stream maintenance project earlier this year. The project's
plU-pose was to remove blockages within the creek's channel to help improve storrnwater conveyance and
flooding. Utilizing the watershed prioritization work the Committee completed in the spring 01'2009 we were
able to select Fiddyment Creek as the focus for the American Water grant. Fiddyment Creek is located in the
DesPlaines River watershed Enclosed are the following:

American Water
• Project had to be completed by December 1,2009.
• August 2009 a blockage inventory was conducted to identify and locate blockages (see map).
• 12 blockages were identified for the project.
• An action plan was developed and members were assigned to each blockage.
• A survey questionnaire is sent out asking for residents' input and informing them of the work.
• Action plan is executed in October and November 2009.
• Material removed (see attached sample photos):
• Trees and other woody materiel totaling 1100 Cubic Feet
• CornEd spool for storing wire
• (1) Car
The cooperation alone warrants this project to be considered a success. All groups were helpful in strategizing
and willing to go the extra mile to ensure a successful project. The amount of work that was done for this project
would have easily been in the tens of thousands of dollars if contractors were hired for each blockage, but through
this great partnership we were able to minimize the amount of dollars being spent directly from anyone's budget.
The in-kind services provided for the project resulted in a great return on investment for the tax payers. We are
proud to share this project with American Water and hope that any future projects will be as successful.

Fiddyment Creek Maintenance Project
PROJECT FACT SHEET
Fall 2009
• The Will County Stormwater Management Planning Committee initiated a stream maintenance program and
chose Fiddyment Creek to be their first project. The selection of the creek was based on a series of planning and
prioritizing activities the Committee conducted.
• A $3,000 environmental grant was awarded to the Stormwater Committee by American Water to help offset
cost of the project.
• Fiddyment Creek Maintenance Project stretches from 1-355 downstream to the Southwest to IL Rte 171 in the
City of Lockport.
• Project scope is to remove identified blockages within the Creek's channel to help improve floodwater
conveyance and flooding of property.
• A total of twelve (12) blockages were found, one of them being a car.
• The project successfully brought together multiple jurisdictions to form a joint partnership. Each project partner
took a defined amount of blockages that they would remove using their own resources.
• This partnership not only helped bring together the local authorities in the community, but it also helped reduce
the need of cash contributions and budgeted dollars.
• A couple of contracting partners were indentified and used to help with some of the blockages.
