Robbins-Pinehurst water deal in the works<br />

Call it a gentle shove in the<br />
right direction.<br />
Last week, the Robbins Town<br />
Council and Pinehurst village<br />
Council both approved a letter of<br />
intent pledging to work together<br />
to bring water from Robbins to<br />
Southern Moore County — i.e.,<br />
to Pinehurst and <strong>Seven</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong>.<br />
What makes that a bit unusual,<br />
is that the water system that<br />
serves Pinehurst and <strong>Seven</strong><br />
<strong>Lakes</strong> is owned by the county —<br />
and the county is not a party<br />
to the letter of intent.<br />
it’s clear, however, that both<br />
Pinehurst and Robbins want to<br />
see the county involved in the<br />
project; they just want to see<br />
the county moving a little quicker<br />
to get it done.<br />
“We have been in many discussions<br />
with the county, about<br />
this,’ Robbins Mayor Theron Bell<br />
told The <strong>Times</strong>. “Conversation<br />
is great, but we have to go<br />
beyond conversation. . . How<br />
long are we going to talk about<br />
this before we do something? We<br />
have had really severe droughts<br />
in this county. Are we going to<br />
wait ‘til another severe drought<br />
comes?”<br />
“We have been talking and<br />
waiting and studying for years,”<br />
Pinehurst Manager Andy Wilkison<br />
told The<strong>Times</strong>.“We felt it was<br />
