Port Service Providers<br />
The Port of <strong>Belfast</strong> does not provide all the services<br />
required to operate the port directly. A number are<br />
supplied by third party companies in fields such as<br />
stevedoring and towage. It is vital to monitor this aspect<br />
of the Port’s operations and to work closely with the<br />
service providers to ensure that the integrated solution<br />
offered to customers meets our ‘best in class’ goals.<br />
Employees<br />
The Port of <strong>Belfast</strong> recognises that successful delivery<br />
against the business objectives demands that the<br />
organisation retains and attracts appropriately skilled<br />
and motivated employees.<br />
To attract and retain the best employees, the<br />
Port of <strong>Belfast</strong>’s desire is to become recognised<br />
as an ‘Employer of Choice’.<br />
Health and Safety<br />
The Port Industry, given the nature of the processes<br />
involved, has a propensity to be hazardous. The Port of<br />
<strong>Belfast</strong> considers the welfare of employees, customers<br />
and visitors to be of paramount importance and<br />
consequently invests considerable energy in Safety<br />
Management. The Port’s Safety Systems have recently<br />
been certified to OHSAS18001 and attention is now<br />
concentrated on continuous improvement.<br />
The Environment<br />
<strong>Belfast</strong> <strong>Harbour</strong> Commissioners undertakes its business<br />
activities with the objective of balancing the economic<br />
benefits they deliver against their potential impact on the<br />
environment.<br />
The Port is also an active participant in a number of<br />
organisations and projects designed to better understand<br />
and reduce the impact ports have on their environments.<br />
