Port Service Providers
The Port of Belfast does not provide all the services
required to operate the port directly. A number are
supplied by third party companies in fields such as
stevedoring and towage. It is vital to monitor this aspect
of the Port’s operations and to work closely with the
service providers to ensure that the integrated solution
offered to customers meets our ‘best in class’ goals.
Employees
The Port of Belfast recognises that successful delivery
against the business objectives demands that the
organisation retains and attracts appropriately skilled
and motivated employees.
To attract and retain the best employees, the
Port of Belfast’s desire is to become recognised
as an ‘Employer of Choice’.
Health and Safety
The Port Industry, given the nature of the processes
involved, has a propensity to be hazardous. The Port of
Belfast considers the welfare of employees, customers
and visitors to be of paramount importance and
consequently invests considerable energy in Safety
Management. The Port’s Safety Systems have recently
been certified to OHSAS18001 and attention is now
concentrated on continuous improvement.
The Environment
Belfast Harbour Commissioners undertakes its business
activities with the objective of balancing the economic
benefits they deliver against their potential impact on the
environment.
The Port is also an active participant in a number of
organisations and projects designed to better understand
and reduce the impact ports have on their environments.
