Section 1 Chairman’s Summary Over the next 15 years, the Port of Belfast is undertaking one of the most extensive and ambitious investment programmes in its history – rivalled only by the opening of the Victoria Channel itself. Given the long-term and capital intensive nature of port development, the Corporate Plan 2008 – 2012 will lay much of the groundwork for the Port’s 15-year, £630m investment programme. The Programme is founded on the strong relationship between Northern Ireland’s economic growth and tonnages through the Port. The objective is to deliver significant increased capacity for Port customers and the local economy, and accelerate the Port’s role as a major driver of economic activity and regeneration in Northern Ireland. The Corporate Plan 2008 – 2012 is a fundamental part of that process. Importantly, there are still outstanding issues relating to the Port’s constitution (Public Corporation status) and also regarding outstanding increased commercial powers as agreed by the previous Northern Ireland Assembly. Progress on these issues, in addition to ongoing support for Employees, Customers and Port Service Providers, will ensure that the Port of Belfast maximises its contribution to Northern Ireland’s future economic success. Capital Spend during the course of the Corporate Plan is £160m, covering Port development, ongoing regeneration of the Harbour Estate and co-promotion of Titanic Quarter. The Estate is an integral part of the business and an essential source of funding for future port investment plans. Page
