Labor History:
Bread and Roses strike
In the early 1900s, the Everett
Mills, like all the other Lawrence
mills, were staffed mainly with European
immigrants who were underpaid
and overworked. When a
law was passed in Massachusetts
reducing the maximum number
of hours that could be worked
weekly by women and children,
the mill owners reduced their
workers’ pay accordingly and the
Bread and Roses strike of 1912
erupted.
Believing that a workforce of
women and ethnically self-segregated
immigrants living paycheck
to paycheck could never band
together to achieve a common
goal, the mill owners were proved
Report
Brothers and Sisters,
I hope everyone enjoyed the two
weeks off. It seems like this year is
looking good for the Sonic and Verano.
The Verano is doing well and the Sonic
is about to take over the #1 spot for the
compact segment! The Verano’s new
turbo will increase our out-put to 40%
of our build. Let us keep the great work
moving forward and continue with all
of the positive direction!
The Local picnic is Sunday, August
5th at the Independence Oaks
County Park. The Executive Board
decided to try a new location. However,
if we do not get a good turnout
this year we may consider bringing it
back to the Union Hall.
The Annual Scholarship Golf
Scramble is on August 11th. Please
get your applications in so we can
help the golf course prepare for our
outing. Encourage your friends and
families to get a team together so
we can raise money for our Local
scholarship fund. The more money
we raise, the more scholarships we
can give away.
Throughout the years, our members
have come to us looking
for some help in paying for their
children’s education. Well folks,
guess what…this is one way we help
provide some assistance. Some of
you may have received our help with
one of our scholarships in the past, so
come on out and have some fun, and
give back to this worthwhile cause.
Next month, our Local Membership
Meetings will start up again on
Labor Day, September 3rd. Once
again, we will be doing the breakfast
at the hall before the meeting. Then
after the meeting, we will go and walk
in the traditional parade.
We received our tickets for the
V-CAP Dollar Drive. The Region
brought forth some nice prizes. The
grand prize is a trip to Hawaii, an
Apple laptop, a fishing charter on
Lake St. Clair, IPads, and some
other nice prizes. Look to the flyer
on page 8 for more details. I hope
to see you all at the picnic and the
golf outing!
In solidarity…
by Louis Rocha
Primary Day is August 7th and I
hope you all take the time and exercise
a right that was fought for; a right that
people died for. It has always been
an honor for me to go to the polls
and have my vote counted. The right
to vote and choose our leaders is at
the heart of what it means to be an
American. Voting is a fundamental
freedom guaranteed by more Constitutional
amendments than any other
right we have.
But now that right is being challenged.
In the past few years alone,
many states have enacted new laws
requiring law-abiding citizens to show
a photo ID before they are allowed
to vote. This has been spreading like
wildfire across the country in states
with Republican-controlled legislatures.
In 34 states, voter ID laws
have been introduced that would
effectively disenfranchise more than
21 million Americans.
Here’s what’s going on. Republican
politicians are rewriting our laws to
keep Americans who tend to vote for
Democrats from voting at all. They’re
Local 5960 is ON-LINE!
also manufacturing a conspiracy to
help them rig the vote in their favor.
We are facing a coordinated effort to
block the vote of the poor, minorities,
youth, and the elderly.
The way some of these politicians
and CEOs view this is that if they can’t
count on your vote, they rather you
not be counted at all. Big corporations
don’t like it when Americans vote
against the politicians they sponsor
and big corporations are protecting
the politicians who keep their tax
loopholes open. It is a coordinated
effort!
Here’s their position. They claim
that voter ID laws will eliminate
fraud. The idea of “voter fraud” is
a fraud. It’s not a problem in our
elections. As a matter of fact, voter
fraud rates in the 2002 and 2007 elections
were 0.00003% nationwide,
0.0009% of the time in Washington.
And most cases of “voter fraud” are
actually traced to causes like clerical
and typographical errors, mismatched
record entries, and simple
mistakes.
This is America, we’ve never solved
anything in this country with less democracy,
and we won’t now. Please
make sure that you are a registered
voter for the general election (November
6, 2012). If you have moved
or changed your last name, you must
reregister, and you must register 30
days before an election. See you at
the polls!
Every year, we make trips to our
doctor’s and dentist offices to get a
physical or dental exam. Quite often,
that check-up includes blood tests, x-
rays, an EKG, etc. These annual doctor
visits are a great idea to find out the
current status of our health. Usually,
the doctor gives us a thumbs up, as we
let out a big sigh of relief, because we
just need to make a small adjustment
to our exercise routine or pass on that
big piece of German chocolate cake.
Yum! However, how often do we get
a financial check-up?
As we are receiving our semi-annual
financial statements from our
credit unions, banks, IRA and 401K
accounts, now is a good time to collect
our info and do a “net worth” statement.
a snap shot of your current financial
health. After determining your current
financial status, you can evaluate
where you are today and plan where
you want to be in 5, 10, or even 30
years from today.
To calculate your net worth, add
up your total assets, the value of your
saving accounts, IRA’s, 401k’s, and the
value of your home, boat, or car. Then
subtract your liabilities or what you
owe on your home mortgage, loans,
figure. Hopefully, after the math,
there is a positive number or at least
a better figure than anticipated.
So start today and do your financial
check-up. If you are not happy with
your current financial status or have
labor, the UAW, and the overall labor
movement, are under attack from the
many anti-union bills being passed or
awaiting legislation. Many politicians,
various news media, and large companies
point the finger at unions as the
reason why companies can’t survive
and therefore take jobs overseas. Thus
the problem with the U.S. economy!
What they fail to tell the general
public is that Washington incentives
were given to companies to create jobs
overseas; where they can pay cheap,
third-world country wages; and laws
to protect the environment, safety,
and overall welfare of the workers are
NON-existent. In addition, the Free
Trade Agreements in place with other
countries hurt U.S. manufacturing.
The American workers and unions
are NOT the problem with the U.S.
economy!
Events in History for
August 2012
19 August 1916 Strikebreakers hired by the Everett Mills owner Neil Jamison attacked
and beat picketing strikers in Everett, Washington. Local police watched and refused to
intervene, claiming that the waterfront where the incident took place was Federal land
and therefore outside their jurisdiction. (When the picketers retaliated against the strikebreakers
that evening, the local police intervened, claiming that they had crossed the
line of jurisdiction.) Three days later, twenty-two union men attempted to speak out at a
local crossroads, but each was arrested; arrests and beatings of strikebreakers became
common throughout the following months, and on 30 October vigilantes forced IWW
speakers to run the gauntlet, subjecting them to whipping, tripping, kicking, and impalement
against a spiked cattle guard at the end of the gauntlet. In response, the IWW called
for a meeting on 5 November. When the union men arrived, they were fired on; seven
people were killed, 50 were wounded, and an indeterminate number wound up missing.
August 1917 IWW organizer Frank Little was lynched in Butte, Montana. 26 August
1919 United Mine Worker organizer Fannie Sellins was gunned down by company guards
in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania. 27 August 1950 President Truman ordered the U.S.
Army to seize all the nation’s railroads to prevent a general strike. The railroads were not
returned to their owners until two years later. 3 August 1981 Federal air traffic controllers
began a nationwide strike after their union rejected the government’s final offer for
a new contract. Most of the 13,000 striking controllers defied the back-to-work order, and
were dismissed by President Reagan on 5 August.

Hello Brothers and Sisters,
WELCOME BACK
Welcome back from the downtime.
I hope everyone is doing well as we
start the second
half of the year.
We start back at
a time when sales
of our vehicles are
doing well. The
Buick Verano
is flying off the
dealer lots and the
Chevrolet Sonic
Mike Dunn
has quickly become the best-selling
vehicle in its segment. In fact, sales
are strong enough to generate some
Friday overtime going forward.
NEW COACHES
Let me welcome our new GMS
Coaches: Benjamin Bieber, Paint
Shop, Day Shift; Night Shift, we have
Stephanie Farrell in the Trim Shop
and Material Dept; Denise Hufford
will coach GMS in Body and Paint;
and Dewitt (Mac) McGowan will
coach the Chassis Department, Quality
and Final Process. Please join me in
welcoming these new coach/trainers.
We can now give the Team Leaders
and Team Members on the Evening
Shift the assistance that they need
to fully take advantage of the GMS
principles.
PERSONNEL MOVEMENT
We have had a number of our members
who have taken transfers to Flint
North, Flint South and Flint Stamping.
As we backfill these positions,
the Bargaining Team is working hard
to make some additional Temporary
Members permanent.
CONGRATS TO THE BIKE TEAM
As of the writing of this article,
our Make-A-Wish Bike Team is
preparing for their 300-mile ride
from Northern Michigan to the MIS
Speedway grounds. This special
group of dedicated individuals commit
themselves to excellence each
year, and this year is no different.
With your help, they were able to
raise over $16,000 for the Make-A-
Wish children. This is just an incredible
way to help ill children and their
families through their most difficult
times. My hat is off to this high-performance
team...great work!
LABOR DAY
I know it seems like summer just
started, but Labor Day is just around
the corner. I hope to see you all at
the September union meeting and at
the Labor Day Parade. This Labor
Day parade will put the presidential
election into high gear and we need
to re-elect Barack Obama. Just think
for a moment...where would you be
working right now if Barack Obama
had not been elected? It would not
be at Orion Assembly because GM
would have been liquidated and who
knows what John Mc Cain would have
said when the president of the UAW
called to suggest bringing a small car
back from overseas. He might not
have even taken the call! We need to
support politicians who support us.
Barack Obama is in our corner...the
other fellow wanted to “Let Detroit
go bankrupt.”
The schedule on Labor Day week
will be 10.7 hours, 10.7 hours and
10.6 hours. Thank you again for your
support and enjoy the rest of your
summer safely with your family.
that touch GM, and can
help clear up any misconceptions
you might come
across in your networks
and social circles.
Two very different administrations
both recognized the importance of
the auto industry to our economy,
and had the courage to act. The auto
industry is adding jobs and driving the
economy again. GM employs 77,000
people in the U.S. and 205,000 people
globally. Since the successful IPO, we
announced $7.1 billion invested in
U.S. facilities in the past two years to
create or retain 17,800 jobs.
Currently, there are no outstanding
loans between the U.S. Treasury and
General Motors. The U.S. Treasury is
one of about 530,000 owners of GM
stock. The Treasury will sell its GM
stake. When is anybody’s guess (we
have no say in the matter).
OFF TO SCHOOL IN A NEW
SONIC: Deb
and Ron Mallot
(Deb is a Team
Leader on the
Engine Line in
Chassis Dept.)
recently bought
their daughter,
Melissa, a new
Sonic to drive
while attending
Central Michigan
University.
Ron drove
the car a lot before
giving it to Melissa and he was
impressed. He was getting over 40
MPG on the highway and even in city
traffic he was averaging 30 MPG.
Deb and Ron both agree that the
Sonic is a great first car for a college kid.
Deb says, “The shifting is easier to use
than my husband’s Mini Cooper.”
(Melissa learned to drive a stick in
the Mini), Melissa says, “It shifts like
butter.” One of the features that Deb
likes is the built-in delay when shifting
on a hill. Deb said, “Personally I
always hated that when I drove a stick
and, of course, as a parent I love all
the airbags that the car has. If more
kids knew that driving a stick was this
easy, I think we would be selling a lot
more. Maybe we should offer to area
high schools a Sonic for the students to
learn to drive a stick. People are afraid
to drive a stick; they think it’s a pain
in the city and stop and go driving, but
if they knew how easy the Sonic is to
shift I think they would be surprised.
I am very proud that I played a part in
building such a great car. My co-workers
and I are doing a great job.”
Melissa wanted everyone to know
the things that she liked best about her
new Sonic. Things that I like: The color,
the new car smell, the gas mileage, the
cup holders in the door (although you
can’t crank the window with a large cup
in there). I like the shifting, it’s very
smooth and easy and the feature where
you have to pull up (on the shifter) to
put it into reverse is very reassuring to
me. All the trunk and back seat space is
nice. Also, I love that it is a hatchback. It
is such a cute car and very much me.
Thank you, guys!
Washington, DC – Eighty-seven of
the richest Americans from 49 U.S.
cities recently sent a letter to Congress
saying that it would be unwise and
unfair to renew the special Bush tax
cuts above $250,000 in household income
that disproportionately benefit
the wealthiest 2 percent. The Bush tax
cuts for the top 2 percent give people
who earn over $1 million a year an
average tax break of about $150,000,
according to the Urban-Brookings Tax
Policy Center.
The letter is timely because the Senate
is expected to vote on the Middle
Class Tax Cut Act (S. 3412). Editor’s
Note: The Senate Voted on July 26th
51-48 to pass S. 3412 and the House is
yet to act. The bill would extend the
Bush tax cuts for the 98 percent of
Americans for one year, but would
end them for household income levels
above $250,000 that only benefit the
richest 2 percent.
“As individuals who
have greatly benefited
from the opportunities
America has provided,
we urge you to support
S. 3412, Middle Class
Tax Cut Act to extend tax
cuts for all Americans on
the first $250,000 of their
income, while ending
the extra tax cuts that go
exclusively to the wealthiest
2 percent,” the letter
says.
“Those of us who are
business owners know
that restoring taxes on
the portion of our profits
over $250,000 to Clintonera
rates will have no
impact on our decisions
about whether to hire
additional workers,” the
letter adds. “Indeed, only
about 3 percent of “small
business” owners have
more than $250,000 in
profits – and those businesses,
though they may
meet the technical legal
definition of ‘small,’ can
afford to pay their fair
share of taxes like everyone
else.”
“Congress faces a
choice,” the letter concludes.
“It can ask the
wealthiest 2 percent to
limit ourselves to the tax
cuts other Americans get
– those on the portions of our incomes
under $250,000 — so that it can shrink
the deficit while continuing to invest
in education, infrastructure, clean
energy, health care, and rebuilding a
strong middle class. Or it can slash investments
vital to our nation’s future
in order to be even more generous to
those of us who need it the least. That
shouldn’t be a hard choice.”
Compared to continuing all the
Bush tax cuts for a decade, ending
them for the richest 2 percent would
save nearly $1 trillion, (including debt
service savings), according to Congress’
Joint Committee on Taxation.
Any successful entrepreneur who
says the biggest driver behind their
success was desire for a second Ferrari
in their mega mansion garage is either
kidding you or themselves,” said letter
signer Paul Growald, a former director
of TechRocks and a trustee for the
Rockefeller Family Fund, who lives
editor’s report
LET’S BEGIN TO GET BETTER
The recent events in Colorado lead
us to have a discussion about firearms,
ammunition and
the prevalence of
violence in our
society. Let me
say right up front
that having my
best friend murdered
by a hand
gun when we were
both in our early
Tony Hufford
twenties has soured my views on guns
in general and hand guns in particular.
Let’s just look at the facts: The gunman,
whose name will go unused in
the article, carried a hand gun, a shot
gun and a semi-automatic assault rifle
(AK-47). He also was in possession of
thousands of rounds of ammunition
bought through the internet with seemingly
no limit. His AK-47 assault rifle
had a multi-round clip that could fire
between 50 and 60 rounds per minute
or about 1 every second.
Call me crazy, but in all my years of
hunting I can’t remember once seeing
a hunter out in the field with an AK-47
and multi-round clip preparing for a
hunt. The only thing this type of weaponry
is good for is
to kill people; in
this case, innocent
men, women and
children who had
gone to a movie to
have a good time.
Assault weapons, like the one used
in this homicide, were banned in 1994
under the Clinton Administration, but
the ban was allowed to expire under
George Bush ten years later. The law
expired for one reason; the armament
manufacturers, backed by the National
Rifle Association (NRA) and the politicians
they had bought, wanted it to.
These assault weapons bring big money
to the manufacturers, the NRA who
supports them, and the elected officials
who benefit by way of campaign contributions
and other perks provided by
these purveyors of death.
Why is it that we can ban the use of
the pesticide DDT or any other human-made
substance that can cause
the American population harm, but we
are unable to control these weapons of
death that are manufactured for only
one reason; to hurt or kill people? Are
It’s Been Said…
“The summer night is like
a perfection of thought.”
– Wallace Stevens
you aware that more people in the U.S.
have been killed by domestic gun fire
in the last 100 years than were killed
in all our wars combined?
Some will say we
need more guns.
I have heard this
among our own
membership. More
guns make us all
safer. Well, if that is true when will it
start to happen? I have seen no proof
of this NRA backed theory.
Ask yourself, if you had been in
that dark theatre when the gunman
entered, would you be ready to back
down a madman or become just as
dangerous to those around you as he
was when your emotions kicked in and
your lack of practice with your own
firearm became evident?
The facts are that every day in the
U.S. 25 people are killed by gun fire,
not including accidents or suicides.
Does it sound like we are getting safer
with all these guns?
There really is no simple answer,
but we have to start somewhere to
begin to deal with this issue. How can
we stand by when so many Americans
are slaughtered each year? Over 100
thousand children have been killed by
gunfire in the U.S. since the late ’70s,
when they started to collect such data.
This is shameful.
Re-banning assault weapons and
multi-round clips should be a no brainer.
Limits on ammunition are another piece
of this puzzle. Those two ideas, put into
place, would have saved some lives in
the Aurora, Colorado movie theatre.
What do our leaders talk about...banning
wearing costumes to the movies.
Give me a break. Are our congressional
leaders really that afraid or dependent
on the National Rifle Association?
Obviously, the shooter was a disturbed
individual who was hell bent on
harming the good people of Aurora,
Colorado. There will always be deranged
individuals among us and while
we can’t change that fact, other than to
lock them up after the fact, we can limit
their damage by controlling the equipment
that they have access to. The local
police department doesn’t even have
AK-47s, why should the public?
Let’s start today to make this better.
Re-ban assault weapons, multi-round
clips and limit the amount of ammunition
individuals can purchase.
Thanks for listening.
President Obama made the right call on the auto loans
USA Today, Op-Ed
UAW President Bob King
The bankruptcy restructuring General
Motors and Chrysler in 2009
through the creation of new companies
formed with assets purchased from
those troubled companies was highly
successful. Today, GM and Chrysler
are profitable, investing in America
and creating jobs.
President Obama’s decision to act
to save GM and Chrysler prevented
an economic catastrophe that would
have thrown the nation into a fullblown
depression and resulted in
dozens of additional bankruptcies in
the auto industry and across industrial
America. Instead, the auto industry
today accounts for an outsized share
of economic growth and is helping lead
our nation’s economic recovery.
Yet, for political critics of the Obama
administration, this achievement,
completing a process started by President
Bush, is barely worth mentioning.
The problem for these critics is that
the public, especially in states with a
large auto industry presence, knows
better. People who lived through the
ups and downs of the auto industry
remember well what happened and
how it turned out.
So when Republican presidential
candidate Mitt Romney insists that
GM and Chrysler should have been restructured
in a deal financed by private
lenders, the public remembers that no
entity besides the U.S. Treasury would
provide that funding. Without the
Treasury, “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”
would have turned into “Force Detroit
to Liquidate,” with all the economic
calamity that would have followed.
U.S. Judge Arthur Gonzales found
exactly that in the order authorizing
the sale of Chrysler’s assets to the
new Chrysler. “The sale transaction
is the only alternative to liquidation
available to the debtors.”
Another oft-repeated criticism is
the claim that bankrupt Chrysler’s secured
creditors got less than they were
entitled to under the bankruptcy code.
In fact, the secured creditors received
the highest possible amount available
to them. Judge Gonzales affirmed this
point in the sale order: “The sale transaction
will provide a greater recovery
for the debtors’ creditors than would
be provided by any other practical
available alternative, including, without
limitation, liquidation whether
under chapter 11 or chapter 7 of the
Bankruptcy Code.”
The Chrysler creditors group
agreed, with 90% supporting the sale
as ordered. The U.S. Appeals Court
and the Supreme Court also agreed.
Challenges to the treatment of various
categories of creditors were rejected.
Appearing Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the
UAW 5960 Picnic
Independence Oaks, Clarkston
Yet, well after the questions of fact
and law were settled in court, claims
to the contrary are common among
the president’s opponents.
The latest salvo comes from the
Heritage Foundation, repeating the
idea that the United Auto Workers’
retiree health care trusts received
more money than they were entitled
to under the principles of bankruptcy
reorganization when compared with
unsecured creditors. But the comparison
is hardly apt.
The creditor’s recovery is still occurring
as a part of the bankruptcy restructuring,
while the health care funding
was approved by the court under the
specific part of the bankruptcy code that
deals with retirees, resulting in agreements
with the new GM and Chrysler.
The companies prudently bargained
new contracts with the employees (and
suppliers) they needed to be successful
as newly formed entities. That amounts
to good business judgment that is difficult
to second-guess when both GM
and Chrysler are performing better
than they have in decades.
This improvement was not achieved
without significant sacrifice on the part
of UAW members. Many plants were
closed, and tens of thousands of UAW
members lost their jobs. Those hired
before 2007 haven’t had a raise since
2003. They also gave up cost-of-living
raises, bonuses, vacation pay, overtime
pay, holidays and break time. Those
hired since 2007 are working for lower
pay and benefits that have allowed the
companies to hire thousands of workers
at a greatly reduced cost. Retiree
health care liabilities were shifted
to the retiree trusts. Retirees lost
vision and dental coverage and face
increased out-of-pocket costs.
Last year, UAW members approved
four-year collective bargaining agreements
with the domestic automakers
that contain no raises, but the deals
have the possibility of increased at-risk
compensation through profit sharing.
In return, the companies agreed to invest
in U.S facilities and create at least
20,000 new direct jobs that will result
in tens of thousands of supporting
jobs at suppliers and other businesses
supported by the auto industry in communities
across the country.
In those communities, we are seeing
plants retooled for new products
and new technology, especially as
manufacturers race to meet consumer
expectations for more fuel-efficient
vehicles.
While the political opponents of
the auto rescue package are sure to
continue their flawed criticisms, those
who live and work in auto communities
across the nation see the success,
the employment growth and the sense
of a brighter future, and that is the real
thing worth remembering about what
President Obama did to save the U.S.
auto industry.
RETIREES
REPORT
By Rupert ‘Rupe’ O’Brien, Jr.
Retiree Chairperson
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
We waited all month to have our
Retiree Picnic, but Mother Nature
said we weren’t going to have it outside
again…so it was moved to inside the
Union Hall. A survey was conducted
with the members in attendance and
it was decided that all future Retiree
Picnics will be inside the Union Hall.
For those who were there this past
month, I really do appreciate your
cooperation on this matter.
Due to the weather, we also had to
cancel Sandra’s car show, but it will
be held at our August meeting. Hopefully,
Mother Nature will cooperate.
I’m beginning to think she doesn’t
like us.
Our picnic was still successful despite
the weather. Thanks to Gary
Weatherbee’s brother, Frank, for
entertaining us with some good music.
Also thanks to Jerry and Lona
for picking out some nice gifts for the
door prizes. Other great door prizes
were donated by Randy Hosler, Optiview,
Oakland Audiology, Golling
GMC, Star Mortgage, Grant Fodor
(Edward Jones), and Doug Gravelle
Associates.
We had 3 winners
of $50 in the 50/50
drawing, Eleanor
Adler and Lure
Hulu (3rd winner
info unavailable).
Once again, Wally
Edgar gave us a 40”
TV to raffle off. We
collected $619. All
Rupert “Rupe’
O’Brien, Jr.
proceeds went to our Grandkids’ Scholarship
fund. Congratulations to Ron
for being the lucky winner; and special
thanks to Wally Edgar for making the
generous donation.
Retired Sister Michelle Hollis has a
son (Tim Wilson) who works for Walgreens
of Livonia, and he’ll be attending
our meeting in August to discuss flu,
pneumonia, and shingles shots. If you
are interested in getting a shingles vaccine,
he will have forms available as well
as other important information.
On behalf of my fellow retired
brothers and sisters, I would like
to thank the Local E-Board for the
outstanding job they did on serving
the hot dogs and hamburgers to our
members at the picnic. It’s always a
great sight to see Union Brothers and
Sisters working together.
September 20th is our Soaring Eagle
Senior Day with Ponderosa. We’ll depart
from the Union Hall at 7:15 a.m.
and return around 8 p.m. As of now,
we have 100 members signed up. We
may be able to take on more since we
have two (2) 55-seat buses. We’re putting
together a stand-by sheet, but this
offer will end at our August meeting.
Thank you for your cooperation.
“We stand with the Vice-President
and Judith Biden against the GOP assault
on retirees, which embraces privatizing
Medicare and cutting Social Security
benefits,” said Edward F. Coyle,
Executive Director of the Alliance.
AFL-CIO: Romney is Mr. 1%
The AFL-CIO has unveiled a new
website to draw voters attention to
Mitt Romney’s proposals that hurt
working families and retirees called,
“Meet Mitt Romney: Mr. 1%” and
is available at http://bit.ly/Oa7bhF.
The site urges Americans to see that
Romney is planning to slash Social Security,
Medicare, and Medicaid while
padding his own pockets and the bank
accounts of the wealthiest 1%.
The Local 5960 Picnic will be on
August 5th, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
at Independence Oaks County Park,
off Sashabaw Rd. The county park
will charge $5 per car.
UAW Region 1 Veterans 13th An-
Retirees
On behalf of the Executive Board, Bargaining Committee,
and the entire membership, we congratulate
you on your decision to retire. We thank you for
your dedication and friendship. If it were not for the
sacrifices and struggles you have endured, we would
not have what we sometimes take for granted – which
are the great UAW benefits and wages we have today.
We wish you all the best in your retirement.
