INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this Framework Document
is to set out, in one authoritative document,
what the United Kingdom Hydrographic
Office (UKHO) is charged to deliver by its
Owner and the principles and polices with
which he wishes the UKHO to operate,
including the governance arrangements.
Where relevant, this document includes
links to sources of further detailed
information.
Although it has no formal legal status, the
aim is to make this document as definitive
as possible. To this end updated versions
will be published from time to time, under
the authority of the Under-Secretary of
State for Defence, on the UKHO website:
www.ukho.gov.uk.
The Corporate Plan sets out the strategy
to be pursued by the UKHO in order to
deliver the objectives set by the Owner,
and outlined in this Framework Document.
The UKHO has a world-class reputation
for providing safe and accurate
navigational information, essential to the
needs of the Royal Navy and merchant
mariner.
The UKHO has a proud history, going
back more than 200 years. It has always
had an enviable reputation for the quality
and accuracy of its charts and other
products.
The Defence and commercial shipping
markets are now changing with the
progressive introduction of digital
navigation replacing paper products.
UKHO has developed a vision to maintain
its strong position within this market which,
when delivered, should ensure continued
support for the mariner in the 21st century
and well beyond.
