Content<br />

Students must complete the following two compulsory<br />

modules:<br />

Students must complete any three of the following<br />

lPAl07X Property lnsurance<br />

lPAl08Y Property lnsurance Hazards*<br />

lPAl093 lntroduction to Life lnsurance Practice*<br />

lPAl10S lntroduction to Retirement and Related Benefits*<br />

lPAl11T lntroduction to Life lnsurance Sales<br />

lPAl12U lntroduction to lnsurance Broking<br />

lPAl13V lntroduction to Advanced Reinsurance Practice*<br />

* = limitations and/or requirements apply<br />

Applications <strong>for</strong> exemptions and credits<br />

Application <strong>for</strong> new exemptions and exemptions <strong>for</strong><br />

credits previously obtained through IISA or other<br />

institutions <strong>for</strong> this Programme will be combined with<br />

such applications under the IISA Programme in<br />

Advanced <strong>Insurance</strong> practice and must be made with<br />

the Programme Admin Office on the prescribed <strong>for</strong>m.<br />

No cost is involved.<br />

Teaching method<br />

Distance education. Two assignments must be<br />

submitted and will count towards the final mark.<br />

Evaluation and examination<br />

NB Take careful note of the semester during which the<br />

elective modules are available, in the selection of<br />

modules and to plan your studies and the completion of<br />

the Programme.<br />

Examinations may be written during May/June <strong>for</strong><br />

semester one, and November <strong>for</strong> semester two at any<br />

one of <strong>Unisa</strong>'s examination centres throughout the<br />

world. An extra levy will be charged to students writing<br />

outside the borders of South Africa. A <strong>for</strong>mal 2-hour<br />

examination question paper will be set <strong>for</strong> each module.<br />

Candidates must obtain at least 50% per module to<br />

pass. A mark of 75% will constitute a distinction.<br />

Supplementary (second opportunity) examinations will<br />

be written in the following semester and carry an<br />

additional examination fee.<br />

The assignments count 10% towards the final mark,<br />

while the examination counts 90%. If you are<br />

unsuccessful in the examination, you will need a<br />

minimum of 40% to be awarded a supplementary<br />

(rewrite) examination.<br />

Certificate<br />

On successful completion of five modules (and subject<br />

to the limitations applicable to the elective subjects)<br />

students will be awarded an official certificate by the<br />

University.<br />

Credits<br />

• NQF level 6<br />

• 60 credits<br />

The successful completion of this Programme provides<br />

entrance into the NQF Level 6 IISA Programme in<br />

Advanced <strong>Insurance</strong> Practice (Qual 76481), the second<br />

part of the qualification.<br />

Language<br />

English.<br />

Registration, commencing date and fees<br />

The registration periods and academic year commencement<br />

dates are:<br />

• First semester: 2 22 Jan (registration takes place<br />

from 1 Dec until 22 Jan)<br />

• Second semester: 16 Jul (registration takes place from<br />

21 Jun until 16 Jul)<br />

The cost per module is R850 (including tutorial letters,<br />

tuition, assignments and examination fees, but<br />

excluding the learning material/prescribed book which<br />

must be purchased direct from the IISA<br />

(info@iisa.co.za)). All fees are payable at registration.<br />

An additional amount per module is payable by students<br />

wishing to write examinations outside the RSA.<br />

Students who will be writing their examinations in a<br />

SADC country also have to pay an additional amount<br />

per module in addition to the cost per module.<br />

On receipt of your registration <strong>for</strong>m and payment, your<br />

application will be assessed and considered. If your<br />

application is approved, the tuition material <strong>for</strong> the<br />
