Program News<br />
In the Fall of 2010 the Art Program rolled out a unique, cuttingedge<br />
maj<strong>or</strong> in Art + Design, combining studio practice and digital<br />
design within a broad liberal arts education. The maj<strong>or</strong> presents<br />
a radical vision of integration, ingenuity, sustainability and<br />
community. Recruitment has been strong with over 45<br />
applications in the first year of the maj<strong>or</strong>.<br />
In Spring of 2011 a new min<strong>or</strong> in Art + Design replaced Digital<br />
Illustration to align the maj<strong>or</strong> and min<strong>or</strong>.<br />
Events<br />
The art program provided oversight f<strong>or</strong> the wildly successful<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> Creates: An Alumni Exhibit. The exhibit drew alumni<br />
artists from all <strong>Butler</strong> colleges and programs from a wide range<br />
of graduation dates. The exhibit was beautiful, well attended and<br />
will become an annual event.<br />
At the end of each semester the Art Program spons<strong>or</strong>s “Art Now,”<br />
a huge student exhibit held in the Reilly Room. The Fall 2010<br />
show was better than ever and welcomed w<strong>or</strong>k from students of<br />
Dr. Deb Skinner, College of Business and Dr. Jason Goldsmith<br />
of the English department.<br />
In the Spring semester the art program initiated an Art + Design<br />
lecture series. Speakers included David Russick, chief designer<br />
of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Craig McC<strong>or</strong>mick,<br />
photographer and principle of Blackline Studio and Brandon<br />
Judkins, (’00), direct<strong>or</strong> of programming f<strong>or</strong> the Indiana<br />
Humanities Council and chairman of the board of the<br />
Indianapolis Museum of Contemp<strong>or</strong>ary Art.<br />
