mind requires communication excellence.<br />

<strong>Communication</strong> and Leadership<br />

at <strong>Butler</strong>?<br />

In addition to class size and <strong>Butler</strong>’s reputation<br />

for excellence, faculty talents, location and co<br />

curricular activities make <strong>Butler</strong>’s Organizational<br />

<strong>Communication</strong> and Leadership program<br />

unique. The Organizational <strong>Communication</strong><br />

and Leadership program at <strong>Butler</strong> draws upon<br />

the talents <strong>of</strong> faculty whose combination <strong>of</strong><br />

education, experiences and interests are unique<br />

within the field. Our location in Indianapolis<br />

allows our students to complete a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

internships that prepare them for the working<br />

world or for graduate school as well as law<br />

school. Co curricular activities such as the<br />

Speech Team that competes at a national level<br />

or our nationally know Speakers Lab, a student<br />

managed organization that trains other students<br />

to become better speakers, enhance our student’s<br />

experiences.<br />

In keeping with the liberal arts tradition <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Organizational <strong>Communication</strong><br />

and Leadership combines theory, critical<br />

understanding, analysis and practice.<br />

Organizational <strong>Communication</strong> and Leadership<br />

emphasizes the logical and communication<br />

skills that students need to succeed. For our<br />

students, the result has been success in a variety<br />

<strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essions, including law and education,<br />

and organizations, including not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>its and<br />

large and small corporations.<br />

Outcomes<br />

Our Organizational <strong>Communication</strong> and<br />

Leadership program is carefully tailored to<br />

the needs <strong>of</strong> our students. The program is<br />

organized around five specific student learning<br />

outcomes.<br />

• Students will be able to demonstrate the<br />

ability to communicate appropriately and<br />

effectively in a variety <strong>of</strong> interpersonal,<br />

group, organizational and public settings.<br />

engage in socially responsible communication<br />

public and leadership communication.<br />

• Demonstrate the ability to create and<br />

implement appropriate and effective<br />

organizational communication in<br />
