Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Sara Myers, physical education program, enjoyed<br />
collaboration with the American Red Cross and PE 128 First<br />
Aid and Safety students where they constructed hundreds <strong>of</strong><br />
comfort kits for victims <strong>of</strong> emergencies. She also arranged for<br />
students in PE224 School and Community Health students<br />
to package over 15,000 medications to go on a mission trip to<br />
Ecuador with The Timmy Foundation and <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
students. The year also proved to be a year <strong>of</strong> data collection,<br />
as she helped the Physical <strong>Education</strong> Department compile<br />
data that depicts the physical fitness status <strong>of</strong> over 400 <strong>Butler</strong><br />
students; results hope to be published soon!<br />
Lynn Poore, administrative staff, enjoyed attending classes<br />
while continuing to support the dean and the faculty.<br />
Chris Price, administrative staff, has been assisting the dean<br />
throughout the year with numerous responsibilities ranging<br />
from budgets to special events.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Brian Reagan, physical education, thanks the <strong>College</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong> and his colleagues who supported him in various<br />
endeavors. From “retreats”to the classroom, he loved every<br />
experience in his first year as a faculty member in physical<br />
education. Highlights included a comprehensive research<br />
project administered in all 18 sections <strong>of</strong> Lifetime Fitness.<br />
This provided unparalleled, exciting insight into the research<br />
process and FitnessGram. Finally, he is excited to have started<br />
his journey toward a Ph.D. this year.<br />
Mrs. Linda Rowe, administrative secretary for graduate programs,<br />
works with pr<strong>of</strong>essors and graduate students in the EPPSP, school<br />
counseling, METL and Transition to Teaching programs.<br />
Dr. Eugenia Scott, physical education, has spent her sabbatical<br />
taking courses for her Brain Gym certification, an online university<br />
course in environmental issues, reading and re-reading<br />
many textbooks and supportive material and gathering current<br />
materials for classes as well as preparing for the honors course<br />
on the Olympics and Paralympics she will teach this fall.<br />
Cindy Smith, administrative staff, assists the dean <strong>of</strong> the<br />
COE and the director <strong>of</strong> the METL graduate program.<br />
She also coordinates the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong> Workshop<br />
Program and the COE Summer Institute. This year she<br />
became the co-counselor <strong>of</strong> Kappa Delta Pi educational<br />
honor society at <strong>Butler</strong>.<br />
Sue Stahl ’71, M.S. ’82, director <strong>of</strong> student personnel services,<br />
accompanied a small delegation led by Dr. Fong to China for the<br />
purpose <strong>of</strong> establishing and building on existing relationships. In<br />
her role as guiding the development <strong>of</strong> our students to be global<br />
citizens, she finalized plans for three students to complete one<br />
semester <strong>of</strong> student teaching in Tasmania. In addition, she is<br />
coordinating a Lilly grant to conduct a feasibility study for an<br />
Asian Learning Center.<br />
Dr. Marilyn Strawbridge M.S. ’77, physical education, served<br />
as program coordinator and under her leadership and with<br />
two new faculty members, the program revised the course <strong>of</strong><br />
study, began a program research project, welcomed many new<br />
majors, and is currently initiating an effort to license teachers<br />
in health education as a separate license area. Marilyn has also<br />
been appointed to serve on the Lifelong Recreational Sports<br />
Council <strong>of</strong> the American Association for Physical Activity and<br />
Recreation. Physical education majors enjoyed a welcoming<br />
party at her house in the fall.<br />
Dr. Mindy Welch ’79, physical education, received her Ph.D.<br />
from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> South Carolina in 2008 after her doctoral<br />
defense: “A Phenomenological Study <strong>of</strong> Flow in Postsecondary<br />
Students Participating in Two Racquet Sports” in October<br />
2007. She was also a co-presenter on the Development <strong>of</strong> Task<br />
Presentation Skills in Preservice Teachers at the AAHPERD<br />
National Conference. Finally, she initiated a field-based partnership<br />
with The Key Learning Community and Indianapolis Public<br />
Schools for PE331, Physical <strong>Education</strong> Methods for Early and<br />
Middle Childhood.<br />
