7.2 Interpretations of Errors
The major reasons of the relatively high number of errors in English
cohesive devices may be due to the following points:
1. Intralingual transfer and common learning strategies like
overgeneralization and simplification were found to account
for the majority of learners’ errors. The dominant patterns of
developmental errors in cohesion involved inaccurate
reference across the language background groups: unclear
reference and misuse of conjunction, ellipsis and
substitution.

pronoun referring to it is plural, or vice versa.
