Welcome to SUMMER 2010
at University Liggett School
Academics
A tradition of academic excellence dating to 1878, combined with a
commitment to helping students become confident, capable, caring
adults, has earned University Liggett School an outstanding reputation in
independent education in the United States. Liggett offers each student
a strong college preparatory curriculum in the liberal arts and sciences
including arts opportunities in music, theater, dance, and the visual
arts. There are ample opportunities for innovative, hands-on, real-life
learning experiences in primary school through grade 12. Our curriculum
includes a broad program of athletics and physical fitness, including
solid instruction and team competition. In addition, our co-curricular
experiences help students develop talent, character, leadership, and
community responsibility. Our small class sizes allow our dedicated faculty
to provide personal attention for every student we serve.
Arts
At Liggett, we believe the arts are fundamental to the total education of
every child. ULS students have access to three performing arts auditoriums
on two campuses. Our creative and performing arts wing houses a dance
studio, well-equipped music and art rooms, a photography and ceramics
lab, and extensive gallery space.
Through a solid foundation in the arts and our imaginative and resourceful
teaching, Liggett students become aesthetically literate individuals. The
arts help build self-respect, self-reliance and cooperation among our
students. Like the sciences in many ways and like athletics in others, the
arts possess the power to train and to motivate – from the most colorful
finger paint masterpieces by pre-kindergarteners to dramatic, black and
white photographic self-portraits composed by seniors, to the all-school
musicals, and our award-winning middle and upper school instrumentalists.
Athletics
Liggett students, regardless of experience, have many opportunities to be
involved in athletics. Students are strongly encouraged to broaden their
education experiences beyond the walls of the classroom by participating
on an athletic team. Through their participation, it is hoped that
students will develop and strengthen various skills including: commitment,
leadership, responsibility and teamwork.
